My 1980 Cadillac Eldorado has been sitting over 2 years, and I am moving and need to sell it. I charged the battery and tried to start it, it turns over but will not start. I got fresh gas and put that in it and no start, I checked the inline fuel filter and gas is getting thru it and no start. I tried starter fluid and it fires then dies. any idea what I should try nect?

96 cadillac eldorado etc battery not staying charged when the car is started the battery goes up to 14 when driving and press brake voltage drops 11-12(car may even die) and to 13+ if u give it gas

Does the vehicle start after sitting over night or do you need to jump start it . Is the charge light on ( batt. symbol ) at any time ? Serpentine belt good , tensioner good ? Battery cable connections good an tight and no corrosion ? Battery also good ? That is normal for battery voltage to jump up to 14 volts after starting , alternator is replenishing the battery after starting ,that draws down the battery . Going down to 11 or 12 volts when stopping and almost stalling isn't a charging system problem . You have a idle problem , IAC - idle air control valve or dirty air passage , a vacuum leak . Giving it gas and it going up to 13+ the alternator is working . Your best bet take it to a qualified repair shop and have it check .

When I try to start my 1989 cadillac eldorado why does my dash go out and car won't start?

The battery is dead and/or the connections on the battery posts are corroded. Remove the battery post connections and clean the contact surfaces with sand paper and reassemble. Charge the battery while you have it disconnected and after cleaning and reassembly it should work fine. Batteries do get old so yours may need to be replaced if it will not charge.

I have a 2003 escalade that has a dead battery after 2 days of sitting. Once I jump start it it will be fine as long as I start it everyday, but once it sits the battery will die again. What can I do???

First have the battery tested with a load tester and also (most places will do both for free hoping to sell a battery etc) the charging system tested.

Either battery, charging system are bad or you have a drain of the battery somewhere.

A authorized dealer would be a smart move.

Will not start. Been sitting since 1980.

hi, the cylinders are dry of petrol fumes and you need a (good battery), if all the mehanical parts (working fuel pump and clean fuel filter) o.k. and the spark plugs are clean and the (spark plug timming leads) are correct and points are set and the (ignition coil) is o.k. this engine should start. (if not) take off the air filter and check it is clean, leve the air filter off and put a very small amount (egg cup full) of clean petrol into port the carberreter (it will not start straight away because the plugs may be wet) or wrong (timming leads) if it splutters problebly not enough petrol or ignition faults (electrical points contacts dirty) all cars need metered fuel and air to run. wish you luck gerry

1992 Eldorado, 135,000 miles, new battery won't hold dribble charge. So I topped off the charge with 50 amps until I saw 13+ volt reading on the interior display. Then turned the key and starter finally...

you need more than voltage from the battery, the other is amps. you may have a problem with the the alternator that it is not working (charging) or the internal voltage regualor is shot. what does the "driver information center (DIC) say? without more information, I can't give direction to what probably may be try jump starting the car from another car or battery.... good luck!.

I have a 1979 Cadillac Eldorado Biaritz with a 350 V8 gas engine, having a problem with my car starting when cold, I have changed the cold start sesnor, all plugs and wires and distributor cap and rotor,...

Sounds like the temperature sensors. I believe there are 2 on the intake manifold. This tells the computer when the engine is cold so that the computer can adjust for a cold start. I have had to change these several times.

If the starter was an issue, the engine would not crank.

1992 Cadillac Eldorado Froze up, Won't turn over

How old is the battery? I'm guessing it's the battery that sat in the car for 2 years. Check the connections for corrosion and make sure they are tight. Pull the battery out and have a parts store check it's condition (free service ). You are going to have other issues after getting any battery problems resolved. Gas goes bad quickly these days, and you will probably need to clean injectors, drain the tank, etc, also brakes may drag, due to corrosion from sitting. Good luck.

Battery issues

It would take a good mechanic about 15 min.- 1/2 hr., to test your charging & starting system for you. Could be a faulty battery, or wrong battery for your car, bad connection, system not charging, or some kind of a current draw is taking place while sitting like , lights on, etc.or even a worn starter. If you have your own ( DC volts ) multimeter or a friend has one, we could walk you through what to try. What size CCA does it say on top of the battery?
