Over heated batteries are a problem ... just ask Boeing. I would say you have a regulator problem and the battery is being over charged. Were I in your position, I woujld get this repaired before I went on any more trips, I wouldnt want that battery exploding or catching fire under my pututti.

My 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe gives off a foul rotten egg smelling stench that seems to be coming from the battery. The bike has fried two brand new batteries in just two days of riding on each....

The egg smell is the battery. as it overcharges and overheats, this gas is flammable as well so no sparks.
The regulator is definately shot, but possibly the alternator windings as well.
Not certain on that model but it may have an alternator with an internal regulator.
Unfortunately can be an expensive exercise.

disconnecting the battery lead with the car running is a good way to cause serious electronic problems
take it in to have the charge circuit checked including the voltage regulator, fuse, diodes ' rectifier pack
find an accredited auto electrician for this , not your local mechanic

Took a 500 m ile road trip and my battery would get over heated smell like rotten eggs and at one point shut down my whole bike. Had to replace battery 4 times before I got home. What could be the problem?

Not knowing what kind of bike you have, I can't tell which parts to change, but it is definately OVER-charging. the rotten-eggs smell is battery acid boiling(so to speak) out of battery. Have voltage regulator checked first tho

Hi, All electrics come on, push the clutch in and press the starter button and it clicks, the pin on the rev counter goes round and it resets. Coming home from work I could smell rotten eggs... What could...

Could be a battery problem. The smell may well have been the battery over charging. The voltage regulator would have to be suspect if this is the case.

Melting rectifier on ducati 900 ss

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, it is a known/common failure of the regulator. This is especially so for those models with 2 phase alternators (2 yellow wires). The charging current is shared by only 4 diodes (rectifier). I have replaced in my 907 with 3 phase (3 yellow wires) effectively increasing the diodes to 6 thereby distributing the current and lessen the heat build-up. The charging also improved as noted by brighter headlights. In the 907, the yellow wires passes on the left side of the bike from the regulator to the engine. There are also connectors along the way that gets corroded.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
