2008 mercedes c220cdi engine runs eratically when first started then smooths out .. if the aux belt is removed it runs as it should .. suggestions please

O strange one there are only aHead of Production Lemington, Newcastle Upon Tyne (NE15) Excellent salary & benefits CY Partners Permanent Posted 16 days ago few things connected by the belt power steering pump this wouldent make it do that
water pump again wouldent do it
alternator this is a possibility but unlikley
only other thing is the turbo this if its faulty could cause a lot of problems i would start with this electrical problems ect

Did you get the code that triggered the SEL? If you know that, it will be easier to diagnose your problem. You can do it without a tool on the old saturns. Just need a paperclip. :

Use a paper clip to jumper Terminal A and B of the ALDL *Assembly Line Diagnostic Link* which is above your left knee.
Terminal A is an interal ground and is the top right terminal in the connector. Terminal B is directly adjacent and to the left of Terminal A.

Turn the ignition to ON.

All codes are 2 digits between 11 and 99. Codes are displayed on the SES light by flashing the light with short and long pauses to distinguish digits of one code from digits of another. The short pause is used between digits of the same code, long pauses are between codes. Also, each code is flashed three times before going to the next code.

For example, the sequence of code 12 will be: flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause, then repeat 2 times. If Code 12 is not displayed, the self-diagnostic pogram i snot functioning properly.

If only Code 12 is displayed, no system malfunctions have been stored.

Any existing system fault codes are displayed in order from low to high, except for Code 11.

On vehicles with an automatic transaxle and on which exist stored transaxle codes, Code 11 will be displayed last, then the SHIFT TO D2 light will begin flashing transaxle codes of flags.

When all engine codes have been displayed, Code 12 will flash again.

slow idle incorrect - injector lines leaks -restricted fuel return line - air in system -contaminated fuel -injection pump timing off.

This one does require a tool to loosen the fan clutch from the water pump shaft. Part of the tool holds the pulley and the other part is spanner wrench used to loosen the clutch. An important note on these fan clutches: Once you have the fan clutch off DO NOT let it lay with the rear side of the fan pointing downward as the silicone fluid that provides the "clutch" action can drain into the bearing and cause the clutch not to work. Once you have the clutch off just lean the fan and clutch against something so it is standing upright just as it is when it's bolted to the water pump until you are ready to put it back on. Hope this helps you out a bit!

W is winter and it starts in a higher gear to prevent slipping when accelerating. S is standard. Standard is better for fuel economy.

Don't you have some warning lights on your dash? MB cars are fly-by-wire that tend to depend so much on battery electricity when shut off. Use a high amps battery or battery recommended matching your car model. Check on some instruments that can be a parasitic drain to your car like, car alarm, sticking relays on auxiliary fans, radios. Worse you have a short somewhere or a wiring harness issue, but it should be giving you a warning on the dash.

check plugs and wires to make sure they aren't broken freyed or chaffed, then I would replace the coil pack if all plugs and plug wires look ok.

Start on bottom pulley , remember engine turns right .. go to next pulley up , if pulley is grooved install grooves in belt on pulley , next pulley , grooved or smooth , smooth use back of belt , remember clockwise around pulleys , grooved pulleys grooved side , smooth pulley back side ....

Have you checked the timing belt yet ??
Depending on which engine you have, it may be an interference engine, which could damage the valves if the belt breaks while the engine is running or starting.

How do reset the FSS after Service a and Service b

The instructions for resetting the FSS are almost correct for a 2007 C350.
Change line 1 to read:
1 Turn electronic key in the steering lock to position 2

I would also increase the hold times to 5 seconds.
