Several things need to be addressed when replacing a chain, including number of gears in the rear cluster, length, amount of wear on the old chain, correct routing, etc. See this page for good instructions: Chain Replacement Derailleur Bikes. After you understand those instructions you can view videos at this link: replace bicycle chain Google Search Make sure the video is for rthe same type of chain that you have.

Wrap it round the chainwheel and rear sprocket, threading it through the gear mechanism if one is fitted. Then use the connecting link to join the two ends. About 30 seconds work.

And who asked for your opinion ? The info I gave was accurate - it is not my job to ensure that the OP has the correct items available

  • Donald Ayers-Marsh Sep 23, 2017

The OP asked for the correct procedure, which includes sizing and the correct type of chain. If the OP does not know how to install he certainly does not know the rest. My intent is not to insult you but to make sure the OP is helped.

Bike chain broken, how to fix this?

Sometimes all it takes is a master link or "quick link," but you can't count on that. How to fix it depends on several factors. There are different chains for the various number of cogs/gears on the rear of the bike, and an older chain may require a different procedure than a newer one. Further, if the chain is badly worn it may need to be replaced, but then may not mesh well if the gears aren't replaced as well. Finally, just taking out the rest of the link (one full link is one outer and one inner) may make the chain too short, which could damage the bike.

It's best to take the chain and bike into a bike shop, or a bike co-op if there's one available. If you really want to know all the in's and out's see this link: Chain Maintenance

Just purchased bike and chain skipped under load

very likely that chain links not "fitting" cog teeth . if both chain and cogs are brand new, then skipping should never happen. more often than not, a repair would require both new chain and new rear cogs, and possible new fron t chain wheel. all depends which item are worn. I would probably get a new chain firstly, then see if this fixed the problem. nigel

My chain slipped, the part attached near the back wheel... "the two small wheels that rotates the chain I believe that it shifts the gears" it has fallen off and bent doing the time it was...

Ask a local Bike Shop. Derailleurs for that bike are cheap. Evaluating the bike for a bent derailleur hanger and fixing it is a job for the pros. Word to the wise. Never pedal backward or roll the bicycle backward if it is the rear derailleur is not precisely aligned with a gear. It WILL rip bend or the derailleur right off.

Chain Broke on a Huffy Tundra 18 speed 26" bike. I need to know the size chain to replace or the master link/chain connector to fix the chain.

if the bike has gears it does not have a master link, that is for single speed bikes only.

You will need an 8spd chain for your bike (1/2" x 3/32), these will fit any 6,7 or 8 spd bike. This requires a special tool to install ($8-$25), I would recommend taking into a bike shop and have them do it if you have no experience with this type of chain.

Side note: if you do own the tool, you can repair a broken chain for a temporary fix in the future, so may be worth buying. Check around, many bike shops offer basic repair classes and cover this.

My grandsons bike chain broke. Went to the store to buy a new chain. On the back of the package it said I needed a chain rivet extractor and of course, the store didn't carry that tool. How can I fix...

You should go to a bike shop, they can sell you a master link, and keep your own chain. Is your grandson's bike a 1 speed or a multi speed bike, if it is multi then you need a chain tool. Bike shops can do the job cheaper than you can buy the tool and it will be done right. Take the chain back to the store that didn't carry the tool.
