Thats a transmission slip.Check the fluid condition,it should be reddish, if its blackish your solution will be a new transmission or a rebuilt

Could be low fluid in the transmission, or the slave cylinder to the transmission. finally could be the torque converter. I would have the system checked and try bleeding it through before replacing any parts

2002 Windstar. Automatic transmission has begun to make a whirring sound when decelerating above 40 mph. Sounds very much like decelerating with a manual transmission when the clutch is not released. Pitch...

Sounds like a bad torque converter. When the torque converter is engaged, it's not "whirring" it's on decel or freewheel that it "whirs".Did you check fluid level and color?

Best advice.....take it to AAMCO....they do a check on the transmission system for FREE. They will let you know probable cause of your problem.
