All connection clean and I do mean all. New battery. New starter brush's switches checked voltameter. Cluth diod tested from relay plug. So I put in new relay and hit the switch and starts cranking and continues cranking. The silond relay welded to start. Have to unhook it to stop it. On the other one it would crank it over a bit and now it won't switch took them both apart and they where both melted at the top. The original one would not even click and tested bad. Never took it apart. The starter was done a yet and a half ago and so was the cluch. My dad's bike. He had I running great and ended up in hospital with canser. So it sat with new clutch tiers rebuilt starter new brain pickups oil change coolent brakes flushed ready to ride. Carbs where ran with true fuel so all is good. I trying to get it running so he can ride it again. He has his cancer in remission. So had to get new battery tiers got heat checked bad and two relays cleand ever connection ground pulled stater ran test on it with voltameter reassembled and bech tested it have been checking every thing with voltameter that I can think of pulled starter button and run switch apart cleaned and tested cluth. Only thing I can think of I new battery has a issue but holds 12.6 volts or maybe I'm missing something any help please thank all
Does this bike need a lot to get it started? I mean using the starter button for extended times can cause problems like you have had , do you find yourself cranking over the motor and the bike will start but only after you have been persistently pushing the starter button until eventually it starts ? If this is the case then starters fail due to been run and over heated 80% of the time .
Testimonial: "No with both the new really pushed it for 3-5seconds slow crank on first one. The tried it after charging the battery which was almost fully charged already. The got nothing tapped it a few times. Then pulled out the voltage meator. And tested it not functioning. The 2nd new one was installed after i checked every plug will connection ground fuse and ohm checked the clutch diod hit the starting buten for 2-3 seconds and had to remove the cable. That one welded itself on and I have cleand The r"

Check your ground wire to the frame. Clean and refasten....and find a new mechanic, no excuse for inferior workmanship...Sure sound like a ground problem !......Good Luck to you friend....Tim

If you can hear the starter run, but no motor turning, the starter clutch is going bad. It is what allows the motor to turn over with the starter, and it idles while the bike is running.

Six yrs, is a long time. You really should change the oil. Oil also breaks down like gasoline does. Wet clutches require an oil containing certan sdditives. Old or regular motor oil is not well tolerated. Make sure you have free play on the clutch lever., about 1/8 in. - good luck- Ned

When its hooked up, you should be able to put 12 volts on the little stud on the solenoid and it should start. One large stud will have 12 volts on it, so just jump it right there. Did you get the wires in the right place. The solenoid should have 1 large wire going down to the starter. Be sure the battery cables are clean and tight ( both ends) Check battery voltage when cranking, should go to 10-11 volts. Check voltage between negative terminal on battery and engine, should be ZERO when cranking. The solenoid has 2 large studs, make sure the battery positive wire and all the other wires are hooked to this stud, the other large stud should just have the wire going to the starter.

The question is, do you have power to the starter? If not, the fault is either a button, or switch of some kind. Sounds like you tested the wiring to make sure it is clean and good and tight. Do make sure you have enough cranking amps and power to turn it over.
If you do have power to the starter, then the starter solenoid is likely bad.
