Question about 1997 Honda CBR 600 F(3)V

2 Answers

I have a 1996 Honda CBR 600F3. Bike ran fine for the past 3 months. I now have a problem. The problem is that the bike runs for about 10 minutes and then stalls shuts off. It almost seems as though I'm out of gas. I checked the on/off valve for the fuel it was to the on position. I have also checked fuel flow from gas tank. Fuel flow is good from gas tank. I also checked fuel filter. Gas flows from fuel filter good also. Electrical seems to be normal 14.98VDC @ 2000 RPMs.

I checked the battery with everything off. VM reads 12.98VDC. With the bike running @2000RPM voltage is 14.89VDC. My battery is new from May 2008. I also bring the battery indoors for the winter.

I removed the main air filter. Bike seems to run normal without shutting off. I will keep you updated on my progress.

Yes it seems as though it's a fuel issue. When I first encountered the problem I thought I ran out of gas. The problem was identical as when your out of gas. But when I tried to restart the bike it would only run for about 5-10min and then shut off. I've been able to take the bike for a few test rides for about 30min or so after installing a new air filter. But I'm afraid to go to far.

Battery is suspect here. Put voltmeter across battery with everything off-should be about 13vdc-now turn on the key with your headlight on and read battery?

chare the battery back up and get a volt meter, the battery should read 12v or a little higher, when you start the bike the voltage should rise to around 14v, if it doesnt rise it is not charging and the reg or stator needs checking

I just bought a used 2002 honda cbr 954 rr. i cleaned the spark plugs about a month ago and it started up and ran fine. but now i cant get it to run no longer than a few seconds. any ideas what the problem...

Was the bike running fine before you cleaned them? If your bike won't stay running, you might need to adjust your idle. There is a black round dial on the left side next to the stator (big round circular housing) turn it so the fuel is increased.

Check the vacuum pipe from the carbs to the fuel tap, if its gat a pin hole in as you demand more fuel the vacuum loss cuts downthe fuel flow and the bike will stop!

954 fireblade splutters at 7000 rpm

1ST of all i think you should take your bike to another dealer to get it fixed as they should be able / confident mechanics to repair any problem.
But anyway have you checked the throttle position sensor ? of the fuel injector connections ?
just that water could of coroded the connectors.

Honda cbr 400 rr starting problem

i could not find a schematic of a 96 cbr400rr, so guessing this bike is not from the USA. however, there should be a master fuse near the battery on the positive side mounted to the battery box somewhere. i would check this fuse first to see if its burned out.

also, is battery fully charged? might have to top charge the battery to get good juice if its old (>3 years) and been sitting for a bit.

good luck.

Fuel pump pressure

In my experiences over the years pressure testing the carbs and messing with the fuel pump, I have never actually tested the pump output. Knowing that the average pop off pressure of the float valve on the float is 10-13 psi, this being tested via hand held pressure gauge to ensure no leaks before installation on the bike. I assume that the fuel pressure coming from the pump should not exceed the pop off pressure or it could cause the carbs to leak though and the bike would run rich. Hope this helps out.
