Question about 1997 kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja

97 ZX6R dies in neutral My ZX6R has trouble starting, unless I hold down the throttle. It will run ok as long as I'm on the gas, but it will idle very low, accelerate slowly, and shut off in neutral. Any help?

I just bought a new battery, I followed the instructions for adding the acid and charging it. The battery seems to operate fine.

I just bought the bike about a week ago, I think its an air/fuel problem, or I need to clean my carbs. The bike feels bogged down, and it sputters sometimes.

Not yet, I'm getting some carb cleaner tomorrow and then I'm going to take a look at it, and most likely clean my carbs while I'm at it.

    Me too, thanks man.

Sounds like the shims need adjusting. Get it on a dyno to check the hydro-carbon emmisions if they are too high the problem is some of the valve clearances are too tight. A re-shim will cure the problem

Sounds like you may be right. Have you made sure the air cleaner is not clogged?

I hope you make out ok. Keep the shiny side up!

My 97 Dodge ram Van won't stay running.

Unless the vac leak is very large, it would not keep the engine from idling.
The computer controls idle speed by regulating how much air enters the intake thru the throttle body by use of the idle air control valve.
The throttle body could be gummed up, or the idle control valve may be faulty.

I have a 1992 chrysler lebaron about every 3 months it will start but wont tay runnig unless i have my foot on the gas and the tac barley registers I have done a tune up and changed the gas filter hel

As far as I know the only thing you are doing by holding the gas pedal down is bypassing the idle air control valve. The computer controls idle speed by that valve.
Most times the valve is faulty or there is dirt in the throttle body that blocks air flow to the valve.
If the check engine light comes on there should be a trouble code for the valve or the problem.

Possible areas of concern are:
  • faulty MAF (Mass Air Flo) sensor
  • bad EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculator
  • bad TPS
It's most likely a combination of the 3 but the main cause would normally be the TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) which regulates engine idle speeds under different conditions.

Check your Idle Air Control valve assemble on the throttle body. Either its clogged shut with crud and a clean clean with carb choke cleaner spray and a cloth will fix it, or the electric drive in it is either at fault or there is a broken connection.

idl air control (IAC),may be bad, also, check the EGR valve, and all vacuum lines going and coming from the throttle body. yu can test the EGR,just try pushing the diaphram by hand from beneath. if you can move it easily its good,if its hard,or doesnt move,ot needs repaced. also a pcv valve and air filter are good ideas, considering you have replaced 80% of the emission system already.
