You probably have either bent shifting forks in the transmission ..or a gear with bad teeth either is expensive and will have to be done by a experianced person ...you should check with the dealer and see if there is any adjustment on them to be safe

sounds like the gear selector plate plunger is worn or needs a new spring. on most engines a hollow screw @ 3/4" is accessible from under gear box, take it out and stretch the spring and retry to eliminate possibility.

1999 Silverado V6 Starting issues


If you are sure your battery is good (11 volts is not a strong battery unless you have a bunch of stuff running from it when you measure it), check your battery teminals. Sounds like when you clamp the jumper cables to the battery, the calmp tightens the terminals, giving you a better connection. All connections should be clean and tight.
