Starting I have had the bike from new and it has always started hard. Last week it did not start at all. After a new battery, plugs, and starter it still will not start. There is a banging noise inside the engine when it is turning over. Any thoughts or advise? 2005 Triumph Sprint st

It has 9200 miles. most of the riding of it is country roads. It was laid down 1 time but nothing bad but some scratches. 92 octane for fuel and an oil change at the begining of the riding season. not sure what else you would like to know

It seems like from the middle but I am not sure.

Do you have any idea on the price to fix this problem? I know with out knowing in full detail what the problem is it would be hard to price but I am trying to buy a house right now and do not want to dump alot of cash into the bike.

Does the bang seem to come from the bottom or middle???

Any bang in the engine is not good. If your valves are that far out the piston could be pushing them up or it could be a bearing. I'd hate to do this but run it in to the dealer tell'em cap the diag at $100 find out what's going on...

Any engine work plan on it being at least $500-$1000...

If it's some crazy internal part you might ride out under $500...

Make sure if they fix it they don't try to hose you on any diag time you put in it and take it off the price..

If it cranks but does not start, the battery and starter are out of the picture.
Someone would need to check fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs to proceed.

Just got 1994 s-10 v-6 pu ran for two weeks.always had a ruff time to start replaced battery and cables along with fuel wont start and already drained 3 new battteries.

If your still having a hard time starting, then it's probably the starter. They can short out and will **** the life out of batteries.

If you are starting the bike, warming it up, and shutting it off, You have probably fouled out the spark plugs. When I worked at a dealership we stopped the practice of starting up the cycles for potential buyers because each bike would foul out 3,4,even 5 sets of plugs before it was delivered just because people wanted to hear it run.

Problems with starting up battery is fully charged glow plugs was new in december 09 will sometimes start with jump starter also brand new heavey duty battery last week and still wont start on occasions

Hi my name is Tom and I am here to help.

You are on the right track with a heavy duty battery. You have a diesel engine. It has a high compression. If you replace your starter with a heavy duty one, that should clear up your problem.

If I can be of further help let me know.

It sounds to me like you starter has been going out for awhile now. A weak starter will not start from an older battery that doesn't put out the current of a new one. Even though the battery will check out fine the starter is demanding full current. It sounds like it finally gave up. Take it to a shop and they can test it.

Check the compression of your bike's engine.
It could be weak! Thus this starting problem whn cold.
The extra (jump) battery helps the starter to rotate faster thusbuilding the required compression to fire!

Hard to start

Have you changed out the starter, sure sounds like a starter or starter wiring issue.
