Question about 2002 kawasaki KX 500

1 Answer

I have an 86' KX 500 basket case with side-side play on crank.

This is a barn find 86' Kaw. KX 500 with no rod play but some side to side crankshaft slop. I'm guessing less than a 1/16 th in. Is this out of spec? I don't know the motor history and they could be original bearings. Should I just split the cases and change out the crank bearings and seals? Thanks David

To be honest if this was me I personally would replace bearings and seals and give whole engine good check over.May save some hassle later depending on your circumstances.

86:01 error in designjet 500 plus Paper jam...

System Error: 86:01
Problem Description: Carriage-Axis shutdown.
Corrective Action:
If this error code appeared but was NOT caused by a paper jam, then try the following:
  • Too much friction in the Slider Rod. Enter the Printer Information utility and check the Scan-Axis usage. If the percentage is close to 100%, then lubricate the Slider Rod.
  • The Carriage is bumping into the Service Station. If the carriage is stuck at the right hand side of the Printer and cannot be moved out to the center of the Print Platen it is because the Service Station cannot uncap the Printheads. In this case replace the Service Station/Aerosol Fan Assembly
  • Perform the Carriage Movement test

1986 KX 80 connecting rod repair

Your best bet, if the bike is worth the fix, is to get the crank assembly, as the rod is part of it. You will need to split the engine cases to replace it. Not an easy job. Your rod should have some side to side movement, but no up and down play.

A piece of metal scrathed the side wall of my piston sleeve and goudged the top of the inside of my crankcase, like where my spark plug scews in.it siezed up and when i opened it i noticed antifreeze on top...

There should be no play up and down. Any play is coming from a worn out needle bearing on the crank. A bit side to side is okay and normal. The crank will need to come out then it gets pressed apart and fitted with a new bearing. Price out the difference in cost of fixing the crank verses getting a new $170 crank assembly. What probably happened is a broken piston ring extended into a cylinder port and the piston against the ring is what gouged the cylinder and head. STUCK PISTON ON 65KX KAW

sounds like a siezure, tear down the top end and inspect it!

hopefully its just the piston and not the crankshaft.

remove the piston and see if the rod has nice smooth movement, and no up and down movement on the big-end bearing

Now, you need to find out what caused the siezure, so you dont sieze it again after its rebuilt

Leaking crankshaft seal

The manual on the 750 says put new seals on the crank as you install it, and I believe they have a locating lip on the seal that fits in a groove in the cases. which means a split.

I have trimmed the lip off the seal, and installed them with loctite master gasket, the old seal is hard to remove due to the lip

Oil pump seal blown out two times got any ideas , crank vent good

check crankshaft end play it is possible it has excessive play causing seal to push out of place, if this is the case recommend you to replace short block will be chipper and less problem and time than replacing crankshaft and oil pump with bearings main and connecting rods.

My kx 125 1998will not start..i just bought the bike yesterday an the guy said it had a crankshaft seizure he rebuilt the top end suposively but he said he didnt have the right tool to replace the...

Just find yourself another motor, or send yours off to be rebuilt. Depending upon where you live will be how hard it is to find someone to rebuild the crank. If you can buy the whole crank assembly with the rod already on it, you may be able to get by with it.

Knocking noise on kx 85

The rod should move side to side this is called little end side shake. the correct amount is .8mm to 1.3mm make sure the rod does not have any movement up and down on the bearing. If this is all good your knock may be from a worn piston. If its more of a grinding sound it could be the crank bearings.
