You have a short somewhere in the ignition line. check all connections at coil, check for worn spark plug cables grounding on block.

2000 Kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan Classic keeps blowing the 10 amp ignition fuse


Hi, Anonymous before diagnosing your blown fuse issue check the bottom of your seat if its metal and comes in close proximity to the positive battery post you need to take the necessary steps to ensure there is no contact (electrical tape, thick rubber insulation, hammer a dent in the seat bottom etc.) You are going to need a wiring diagram from your service manual, a test light, an ohmmeter and plenty of extra fuses.
If you turn on your ignition switch and immediately blow a fuse you have a hard/dead short and is usually easy to find. With a test light connected to the hot side of the blown fuse holder start stabbing the wire/s that leads away from the fuse holder and towards the ignition switch, you test light will illuminate validating the short. When the test light fails to illuminate you have passed the short and need to back up until the test light illuminates, then look in the immediate area for the short.
If you driving down the road for 30 minutes or 15 miles and blow a fuse you have soft/flying short and may take some time and patience to find.
If the main fuse/circuit breaker constantly blows/trips while riding you probably have a faulty battery terminal connection. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary. Any other fuses that constantly keep blowing while riding are usually caused by a loose or corroded ground wire in the circuit, which means you have to check, inspect, test each and everyone with and ohm meter set on a low ohm scale 100 ohms or less . Simply touch one lead to the ground source and the other lead to the battery negative terminal, a reading of zero indicates a clean solid ground. Any number reading or infinity indicates a poor ground and needs to be repaired. Poor or weak grounds require excessive additional amperage to complete the circuit which in turn blows the small amperage fuse. 2000 vulcan 1500 ignition light not working


Take the cables loose from the battery. Clean the cables. Might need a wire brush. Reconnect.

TO ALL VN1500 OWNERS....This once happen to me,
I went to the garage to start the bike "Nothing ""The first thing is the lights are bright but no turning over,Next you think the solenoid is kaput but the answer was very simple and the fix takes 30 seconds..
Do not take the bike to bits looking for other problems and look at the clutch leaver and you will see some wires going into a plastic shroud going into the switch in the clutch leaver, Make sure this has not popped out if its connection as it some times may do after a few years due to constant turning on the handlebars,
When this is not connected you will have a bike that will not fire up but comes alive and you will hear a clicking noise but this is from the engine carb area and every function of the bike will work but it will not turn over, Worth looking at and saves sixteen quid for a starter unit you never needed.

My vulcan 1500 classic will not start without jumping the battery. as soon as the jumper cables are removed the bike stalls and will not start.


Most modern bikes will not start unless the battery is charged. Battery is probably dead, and you rectifier is most likely dead too. change those out with ones known to work and see if that changes it.

I believe my motorcylce a 2000- Vulcan 1500 has blown a fuse because I dont have any power to the bike lights or starter. Where are the fuses for this located


I actually have a scematic of this as I have a friend with an earlier model.
The fuse box is shown above the battery but is not clear.
My friends is in a state of severe strip down, loads of wear, my advise is mend the electrics and sell it!

From another forum,

"You've got an exposed hot wire somewhere in the power circuit that's grounding out and causing resistance in the wire. Not sure how to help on this one, electrical problems are damn near invisible, but I'd start looking for a burn mark or scorched insulation on any of the wiring leading up the relay, starter, or main fuze block in the tail."

I need wiring schematics for a 2001 kawasaki vulcan 1500 classic...keep blowing tail light fuse.


Have 2002 Vulcan 1600 Drifter. The tail and brake lights will not work. They were working rear turn signals do. It blew the fuse twice, now it is not blowing the fuse but still no lights. Got power to the fuse and leaving it not arriving at the rear light. The plug in,before it goes inside the rear fender, what color wires are what so I can check if things are arriving there O.K.?

Brother you got a dead short was salvage do to wreck if so check inside head light bezel for split or frade wires.
