When I try to start my 1994 WR250, 2 stroke, it takes a million kicks, or 3 or 4 good pushes down a steep hill, popping the clutch. When I do get it started, once it warms up it will idle, and start back...

Sounds like a combination of leaking fuel tap and old fuel.

When you park it overnight or longer, pull the fuel hose off the carb , and drain the carb bowl.
So when you next ride it, reconnnect the fuel line, turn on the fuel tap long enough to fill the carb, 10 secs, then turn it off to start the bike, turn it back on when the bike starts.
even if you replace the fuel tap this process can help.

Try jumping out the kick stand safety and see if it cures your problem. I had a similar problem but it occurred upon acceleration and seemed to happen at the worst times while passing. It drove me nuts to find the problem and it turned out to be the kick stand safety switch. I permenently disabled that SOB and never had the problem again.

Chances are there is a water build up in the carb float bowls. The water comes from condensation in the gas tank. Try draining the carbs. Another possibility is carburetor main jets partially plugged up. You must clean the carbs if plugged jets are found to be the problem. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_152.gif

What would be the problem if when you give the bike gas it cuts out? The bike starts fine just when u give it gas it dose not accelereate

This is a crack, pinhole or tear in the rubber carb diaphram or loose screws on the diaphram cap. The tear, pinhole or loose cap is killing the vacuum needed in the top of the carb to raise the carb slide to increase speed. Please rate my answer.

Hard to start yz250 dirt bike 2001 4stroke

i used to own a yz426f and it had the exact problem... a fresh plug will fix your problem. change the plug and the bike will run great. also don't start the bike and shut it off , my bike would be fine if i started it and rode for a while getting to the proper heat range help save the plug. if my bike didn't start in one or two kicks it was usually the plug.

hope this helps
