The voltage regulator will have cooling fins on it, for cooling and will be close proximity to battery box.

If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. You can narrow the search by looking for any twin lead 12 volt points ignition coil, as long as you dont get a cdi, or electronic ignition coil, any point coil will do the job

I was told the CDI unit on a 1980 Honda CX 500 is bad... how do I test it to be sure? Thanks

Takes special equipment to test the CDI ... does your bike start? run? if not ... there is that possibility that who ever told you it is bad is correct.

Hi, Just rewired my 81 xs650H bobber.I'm showing everything hot including the coil, but I'm not getting spark.Where would you recommend I check next? Thanks,Keith

I am not sure if the 81 has points or not, if it has points thats the next check. If it is a cdi you will need to check the gap of the rotor then any wires going in out of the cdi unit. Next would be that the cdi is bad.
