Question about 1980 Moto Guzzi V 50 II

1 Answer

I have fitted a regulator/rectifier type rr45 to my v50 ii. There is an orange wire from the new unit that should go to the ignition switch. Which terminal on the ignition switch should I connect it to? Pete.

I have the same problem with my BMW R 100 RT.
I don't know where I must connect the orange wire.
And the instruction sheet wich came with the regulator/rectifier is a pity.
Did you come across any solution, since last july ?
Best regards,
Jean

Jawa 90 roadster motorcycle charging panel with battery fitted

diodes do not regulate charge
simply put diodes are one way valves for electricity and are used to rectify alternating current (AC) to direct current(DC)
you use a voltage regulator after a rectifier pack to control the voltage from an alternator of maintain a max voltage of 14.5 volts dc
take it to an accredited bike electrician

There is nothing in a modern regulator/rectifier that should be making a click sound. Did you mean the starter solenoid just goes click? If this is the case take an old screw driver or a piece of wire and short across the two solenoid terminals. If the starter now works you also have a bad starter solenoid. If you hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer, and the starter works, you probably need new starter brushes.

Will a 1993 ignition switch housing kit fit an 1986 liberty flhtc?Only difference i can see visually is in the type of key used. not sure of the wiring harness on bike yet,and will it line up?

As long as both switches have the same number of connections, they should work. I think they should have six connections on the switches. Earlier switches had only five and latter switches were electronic with a plug on them.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A couple of tests / checks:
  • +12 on the red / white wire to the rectifier even with the ignition switch OFF;
  • +12 on the black wire from the regulator and to the ignition switch only when the ignition switch is ON;
  • green wires from regulator and rectifier goes to the body ground;
  • connector terminals / pins of the 3 yellow wires from the alternator;
  • high AC voltage (>15) on the white wire from the alternator with the engine running;
  • 12.5 ~ 13.2 VDC on the battery terminal when idling;
  • 14.5 + on the battery terminal @ 4000 RPM.
Postback results of tests.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Which post is which on generator on a 1975 sportster?

the post should be the same as an original. The wires should be green and tan. Green wire goes to the post towards the front wheel and the tan to the post nearest the engine. Don't forget to "polarize" the generator before starting. procedure is in the service manual. Momentarily short between the battery positive post and the field terminal.

I haven't tried this on my Volvo, but found it on a forum by googling "volvo turn off daytime running lights" (without the quotes.

Try the following sequence:

Turn the headlight switch to the middle position "parking light".
Turn the ignition key in position II.
Pull the turn signal lever towards you and hold it while turning the headlight switch to position 0.
