Question about Yamaha Royal Star Venture Motorcycles

Whistle noise under load while driving. Have replaced final and intermediate drive bearings, and have prayed, but the noise is still there. Does anyone have a potential solution?

Is this the same for the Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe? This is what I'm working on, but the pull down menu on the fixya site didn't have the option for that make or model.

The owner brought it to me because it wasn't making the noise before, and is now making the noise.

There are a few things that will make a whistle noise under load. Susprisingly fairly common with Yamaha's. Some models with differnt drives do make this noise normally.

Spark plug not seated or cracked etc.

Head gasket leaking

clutch plates not clutching or plating ;-]

intake box leaking

muffler baffles

Check the drive shaft alignment and slop.

I've heard of other things such as cdi doing this but not sure about that one.

Try and track down the location to rule out some of these. It's going to be a handful riding and listening so be careful.

It is "normal" for most royal star ventures to have a loud chirping sort of gear noise at certain rpms. Mine does it in every gear. It is especially noticable at between 100 and 110 kms/hr. If you increase or decrease the speed it gest better. This noise is because of the straight cut gears. Yamaha does this for strength and reliability but it is annoying. You can read more about it on the Venture owners sites such as The Venturers or VentureRider.org.

Low transmission fluid. Manual gearboxes normally use gear oil, automatics use transmisison fluid. Sill could be a bearing, just not a wheel bearing. Just curious, how can you tell its not a wheel bearing?

Ive replaced the cv shaft but the noise is still their...any ideas?

Have you checked the front wheel bearings? I've seen similar problems on several front wheel drive cars. On my first experience, we also started by changing the CV joints only to find it did not solve the problem. We then though it was a transmission problem.... wrong again. Finally checked the front wheel bearings (Both sides) and found the passenger side was making the noise. Bearing replaced (not cheap by the way) but solved the problem.

Final drive has noise coming from it and gear box

i have one of these, check the oil level in the final drive and the colour, replace with good quality 80-90 gear oil,if the noise doesnt go away you may find that one of the bearings in the final drive is worn, often what happens on these bikes is that because the final drive is virtually maint free people dont change the oil and the oil becomes contaminated with particles from the crownwheel, pinion, and bearings and the bearings will evetually fail,i change the final drive oil on mine every time i do the engine oil change and after125000km is still dead quiet

Right-Front Intermediate Axle Shaft Bearing

I am assuming this is an all wheel drive. That being the case you probably have an axle CV joint going out. If you hear noise when making a sharp left or right turn and accelerating that would more than likely be the problem. And, yes this is a serviceable part. Easy to replace if you have the proper tools to accomplish the task. Good luck.

2004 Dodge 2500 diesel, manual trans. noise/whistle

If your certain the noise is from the transmission, you need to take this vehicle to a shop you trust. It sounds as though the fluid pump in the transmission is either starving for fluid, due to a blocked strainer, or the pump is suffering a bearing failure. If you continue to run this vehicle, you stand the chance of stranding yourself, or burning the clutches from a lack of fluid. Good Luck.
