Hi I have a McCulloch strimmer which starts ok but when I open the throttle it just dies. Also I have to keep the choke slightly on to get it to idle. I have replaced the petrol/oil mixture and I am sure that is ok. The shaft seems to spin freely enough. Maybe a mixture problem or the like. Would appreciate some help.

Hi sounds like it could need a diaphram kit in the carby if it has mixture screws one markedl for low speed and one marked h for high speed you can try winding out the low speed screw a bit but if that does not work it will definatly need a kit.
There is a small mesh filter behind the plate by the throttle stop remove the plate clean the filter and all will be well
