Can i recharge rechargeable batteries that are in the camera s860 using a USB connection to a computer

No. The S860 uses standard AA batteries. If you want to use rechageables then you must charge them outside the camera using a separate charger.

When to recharge batter

hi right to be honest both ways are correct, but if your using it every day then its best to put it back on the charger after every use, but the problem with this is that the battery never goes totally flat, so never does a full recharge this reduces the life of the battery by upto 50% so if you are using it regular and need it charged daily then its best to once a month let the battery go totally flat so that it wont even make a sound then do a full recharge.
Doing this will ensure the battery remains at peak performance and make it last longer.

If how ever your only using it say once a week then its best to only charge after the battery has gone flat due to the fact that it would remain on charge longer and cause the battery to over heat reducing the life span of the battery.

But witch ever method you use always let the battery go totally flat once a month then do full recharge this will prolong the life of the battery and ensure it keeps working at full power.

Let me know if you have further questions ok

Camera will not turn on

Have you tried a set of alkalines? They hold slightly more charge than rechargables. Also, your rechargables can go dead really, really fast. I use 'em but I always keep a set of alkalines handy, just 'cuz.

A/c rechage

Sounds like your A/C is still using the older R-12 system, and must be converted to the R134a system. The parts store can sell you an adapter kit to convert the connections, but more often then not you will need to have the system evacuated, flushed, the reed valve checked for blockage and then recharged with R-134a. It does not matter which oil, either ether or PAG is used as R-134a will accept both. But you will need to follow the charge level chart under your hood to make sure you get the proper levels or oil vs refrigerant. If you are going to do this yourself you will also need to get your hands on a vacuum pump, once you crack the system open to flush it you will need to bring is back to -30psi before filling again.

Batteries are going dead within 5 min

What type of rechargables are you using? Ni-Cad are reputed to have a 'memory' so that if recharged whilst not fully run down this is accumulated so that only the new bit of charge is 'active'. So-put the batteries in a torch and leave it on until the batteries are completely flat, then recharge. And/or get a couple of sets of Ni-Mah rechargeable and a suitable charger and start afresh.
