Question about 2001 Suzuki VL 1500 Intruder LC

No fire while engine is cranking, but has spark when I let off the starter button.

2005 chevy trail blazer coil packs not firing won't crank.


If it won't crank the engine over, how do you know it is not firing? The engine has to be cranking to check for spark. If it won't crank, problem is in the starting circuit, not the ignition system. Test the starter.

the computer fires the injectors and the spark plugs. does the check engine lite illuminate and go thru boot up with ignition key in on position.

Make sure fuel is reaching the engine as a first step. Have someone check the TDC crank sensor for you.

old post. but will answer.
the starter only cranks the engine, that is it's only job.
if it cranks robustly (at crank shaft pulley ,see it) then its ok.
250 RPM is typical cranking speed. RPM
no starts are complex.
for any engine Gas, to start you needs 4 things.
  1. ALL FUSE TO EFI GOOD, TEST THEM. CEL glows key on?
  2. full engine compression and crank vacuum 5" HG or more.?>??
  3. Spark , try a fresh tune up with fresh spark plugs. all 6 sparking.?
  4. Fueling , must be right. not flooding , not starving
if spark and engine are good, all engines(most) will start with test fuel.
This one simple test. proves the engine is ok, and spark is ok.
and the fuel system is dead.
these checks , will let is work the 4 systems. that might fail.
this is the classic basics path.
and works 99.% of the time.

exceptions, are clogged melted cat.
or stuck wide open EGR
or ISC stuck closed, (no starting air.) use 10% throttle to prove that.
or flooding, if flooding use super secret unflood mode (opr guide)
hold the throttle (right foot) pedal to the floor, this cuts fueling
and the flooded engine starts, for full time or runs and floods and stalls again.
This is called basics , in all ASE books in print.

1997 chevy 1500 pickup won't start


You need to check if it is a spark problem or a fuel problem. Check to see if you have spark to the plugs by removing a plug wire from the dist cap, hold it 1/2 inch from the tower in which you pulled it from and have someone crank the engine over. If you have a strong spark, then it is a fuel problem. Take off the air cleaner and squirt some starter fluid into the throttle body. If it starts you have a fuel problem. Check the fuel pressure with a pressure gauge. Should have 45-50 psi depending on engine. If you have no pressure check the fuel pump fuse in fuse box. You may have a bad pump. You might try tapping the lowers part of the fuel tank with a hammer while someone else is cranking the engine over. Sometimes that will jolt the pump into pumping.

I have a 1981 Yamaha 550 maxim, it is a great bike but has had an intermittant problem ever since i have had the bike (4 yrs) It cranks over good but sometimes won't fire until the starter button is...


when the starter is operated it zaps a lot of power. there is a component that 'boosts' the starter circuit during cranking but i cant for the life of me remember what it is called, sorry
im off to try and find it ;)

1991 Honda Civic. Starter works, engine will not fire.


If you're not getting any spark, it may be the coil or the igniter, both of which are located inside the distributor.
If no fuel, you may have a problem with your main relay.

May have no spark due to a bad crank sensor, which is responsible for spark when it gets a pulse through the cars' computer.

Hi,
Sounds like the you have no spark since when you force the engine to crank it never fires. The low battery light come on because the 2 sec of cranking lets the voltage get lower than the alarm threshold.
I'd connect a spark tester to either of the plugs and try a manual start, if you see sparks replace the plugs, if you get no sparks then you've got to troubleshoot the ignition modules and the kill wire that comes from them.

89 Ford F250 won't start


To check battery you would need a multi meter to determine how much power is in the battery and how much power is being drawn off the battery when trying to start.Can you borrow a good battery?If you try to jump start the vehicle from another vehicle and engine struggles to turn over its not likely to be a battery fault but an issue with the starter motor or partialy siezed engine.Pull all the spark plugs out and see if the engine will crank over any easier.To check ignition remove spark plug,push removed plug into no.1 H/T lead and lay it on engine block(good earth)crank engine and you should be able to see good spark at spark plug end.Being unable to crank engine at proper speed will not give you proper result so cranking issue must be dealt with first.
