On my 1999 vn 800 the site glass is just under the kick stand..you will need some one to hold the bike level while you look at the oil level or stand it next to a wall or something to check the level, they are the same up to the 2005 models..

Is it possibly a dry sump engine, in which case you will find a filler cap/dipstick on the frame?

I have 1996 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 classic. Is there a dipstick for the oil somewhere? I can't seem to find it @

Hi, Dean you have an oil sight glass right side of engine very bottom if you are experiencing excessive oil coming out of the crankcase breather or air filter please drain all engine oil and replace half of the same oil that comes out. Many riders are overfilling their oil system because they do not know how to properly read their oil site glass or dipstick. The following procedure works on nearly all 4 stroke engines but to be on the safe side you should refer to your owners manual. Use your center stand if you have one.
1. Bring the engine up to operating temperature or let idle for 5 minutes.
2. Turn off your engine and let it sit for 2 minutes, this will allow the oil from the top end to drain to the bottom.
3. Hold your bike straight up or on the center stand and wait 2 minutes for the oil in the bottom of the engine to be level in the sight glass or on the dipstick.
4. Your oil level should be between the top full mark and the bottom add oil mark.
5. Never overfill your oil system it will cause problems:
a. oil leaking out of exhaust pipes.
b. oil leaking out of breather pipe/hose.
c. oil carryover into the air cleaner.
6. Your oil site glass must "NEVER" be completely full or empty drain or add oil as necessary.
7. Your oil dipstick must "NEVER" be over the full mark and should never be below the add mark drain or add oil as needed.

Why cant I find a windshield and seat for my Kawasaki Vulcan classic 400cc on most sites e.g eBay and amazon? what other Kawasaki Vulcan windshield and seat can fit on my 400cc Vulcan classic?

Hi, Boniface for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Hi, Anonymous for this scenario you will need your service manual that has all fastener torque specs and a wiring diagram on the back pages, parts fiche, and owners manual if you can't find the best tool you ever bought for your Kawasaki, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

Not sure of the 900 Classic, but look to the rear of where the gear change pedal is attached to the splined shaft coming from the gearbox. Is the window there?

I have a 2005 classic vulcan 800 and gas is shooting out of the over-flow hose and the little clear plastic over-flow bottle is black and it won't start.

Black means your gas flow washes away oil. Now where thst comes from cant tell you from 5000 miles away. But check out your oil level and signs for leaks around the carb and cilinder heads. Another practical but time spending work is to empty your radiator fluid and see the colour of it. if dark and "soapy"means you got a leak somewhere inside. Gasket? Worn pressure cilinder head springs? Can't tell for sure.

Need to tune and change oil on 1996 Kawasaki vulcan 1500

a complete tune up consists of new fuel filter, oil filter, oil, plugs, valve adjust, carb sync and plug wires(optional).. if there is no dipstick, there must be a sight glass on one side of the engine down low. on that model i believe the oil filter is underneath along with the drain plug. there should be (2) 17mm bolts, one for drain plug the other for filter.
