It sounds like your bike has been sitting a while? The jets tend to clog up rather fast these days with our "new better" fuel. Especially if its been left out in the sun. The choke is actually an enrichment circuit on these carbs and essentially it bypasses the carbs. So if your having a problem with your carbs putting the choke on basically bypasses the problem but normally it doesn't help once you give it throttle... although sometimes it does because its adding that little bit of extra fuel the bike needs to run correctly, but either way you've got an issue with your carbs and they more than likely need to be taken apart and properly cleaned.

I haven't seen this problem on a bike but it is common on cars if you have an inlet manifold gasket leak. Check that the connection from the carbies to the engine are secure and try spraying the joints with soapy water. If the problem reduces you have a small leak somewhere.

Yamaha RD400 fires on one cylinder when gas is added to the hole where the spark plug goes. Does not start without fuel added directly. Carbs have been cleaned and battery is charged but still I only get...

This bike has electronic ignition, if I remember correctly. Spark on one side indicates box may have failed or the trigger unit.. Try switching parts from one side to the other side, I.e. coil, plug, wires one at a time or if you have/can find good used or new parts to try. Are you certain all of the passages in the carbs are clean? If it starts and runs on one one cylinder by putting gas in cylinder, appears if your idle circuit is plugged or your choke circuit isn't working..

Karcher gas washer will not start...have replaced the spark plug and put fuel stabilizer in the gas tank.

Does it have old gas in it? Fuel stabilizer added to old gas is added too late, must be put in with fresh gas. Drain fuel and replace with new gas. Drain carb. also while tank empty and fuel lines if you can. If lucky you will not need to take carb. apart to clean.

Hi, my description is lengthy, but I tried to provide as much detail as possible for troubleshooting. I'm seeking technical input re: a continuing carb issue w/my '96 Magna, which would not turn...

Reserve tube is usually set at a 1 gallon level in the tank, if you only added a gallon to an empty tank,I would fill the tank at least half full, If that doesn't fix the issue then replace the petcock, It's not a carb issue if it runs fine in reserve.

Suzuki bandit 400vc hard starting been to mechanic . do carb overhaul and carb synch but still hard starting. . already change the starter motor nothing happens . . everytime i push start button nothing...

You only have 2 ways to go......1. fuel .....2. spark, if your cranking your bike, first off try this. crank it with no choke . if nothing happens , take your choke pull it all the way out, now crank it.
if it fires, push choke half way in, continue to crank, it should start . If nothing happens a all .

You have to pull out spark plugs, look at them closely . Is it soaked with gas ? or is it dry as a bone ? if it is soaked with gas, clean it up and dry it off, now check your gap it should be alright
but just check it anyways if the gap is to much it will not fire inside the cyclinder, if it is closed
to much it will not fire . take your plug put it back in just the plug wire and rest it up against the
head or any metal surface, now crank your bike if it has a good blue spark your good with the
electrial check both plugs same way . Now if that is ok , then you have to move on to the fuel.
if you have new clean fuel, good , if it is old like lat years get rid of it . drain everything tank and
all of your fuel filters replace, make sure all of your lines are flowing and carb will clean them self.
give it a little bit after it starts running be gentle with let everything catch up. If it needs final

adjustment on carbs take it back to who ever rebuilt them . Good Luck

When not using your motorcycle on a regular basis, always put some fuel stabilizer in the gas. If the gas seems stale drain the tank and mix the old fuel with good fuel by in your automobile or lawnmower and burn it there (no waste). Put fresh fuel in the motorcycle tank. Try draining the carburetor bowl, pull the fuel line off at the tank, put a squirt of carburetor cleaner down the fuel line. Chevron Techron is an excellent fuel additive for cleaning up a gummy carburetor. Be sure and check the the spark plug in the motorcycle is sparking and not fouled. If you check the spark plug for spark right before you are going to try and start the bike, put an eye dropper full of gas into the spark plug hole right before you screw the plug in to prime the machine.

A fterI warm up my 01 rm 250 my bike don't start

Possibly the choke is getting stuck internally, Even thoug the leaver may be in the closed (normal) position, it may be sticking internally. Try removing the choke and cleaning the passage with some carb cleaner, then replace the lever. The bike could run with a partially cloged choke but would be tough to start when warm due to too much fuel. Another thing to check, when it is hard to start, just after kicking it over a few times, remove the spark plug and see if it is wet with gas. My guess is that's it's soaked. Good luck.

I have Boxer AT bike of 2003 made. It has Kehin PC 18 Carburetor and when I use the choke to start the bike, the bike not start at all. What's shall I do?

It seems tht it also doesn't start wth the choke in 'off' position.
Two things:- (1) :-check if the spark plug is wet wth fuel.(Crank it for a little cranks and thn remove the spark plug to check if its wet.)
(2) :- check if you do get sparks at the spark plug, by grounding it to the engine away from any fuel fumes!
I am sure one of the two is missing thts why its not starting.
Let me know the out come please.

Wont start after 6 mos. I changed the spark plug, drained & added fresh gas, checked the fuel filter... Kicks over fine. Ran for 4 seconds, then it died. Always ran & started great before.

With a new plug and fresh gas it should start. Check to make sure there isn't a kill switch turned off or that the gas petcock from the tank to the carb is on.

How did you check the fuel filter? Disconnecting it from the fuel line that goes to the carb is the best way, making sure the gas is turned on under the tank. Bleed off a little gas into a can or something just to make sure the filter isn't plugged.

The last thing I'd do is take off the air filter and spray a little starting fluid in the carb. It may start and run several times if there is old gas in there somewhere. Remember the bowl on the carb is probably still full of old gas. After some fresh fuel reaches the plug it should start and continue to run.

(You might drain the bowl on the carb of ols gas before you go any further)

Good luck!

I added a bit of bad fuel in the tank

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, try to drain the carbs themselves. Each carb has a drain screw at the bottom specifically for this purpose. Just turning these drain screws a couple of turns counter-clockwise would allow the fuel inside the bowl to drain out through a hose. Normally, I do it with the tank's fuel valve open (PRI) so as to enable the gas to flow freely, the fresh gas to wash the inside of the bowl and prevent the float from sticking in the open position. In some instances that the the tank's fuel valve open is closed when doing this, the carb has a bad habit of overflowing. Of course care and safety should be in mind as raw fuel would tend to be draining out.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
