hi mate take the spark plug out and buy a compression tester somewhere and insert in the hole where the spark plug is and see how much compression there is if it goes over 100psi (6 bar) then your piston rings are ok if not replace them

Do u have any spark at the spark plug. When the kill switch is faulty it won't give any spark try disconnecting. sometimes this kill switch grounds itself or the contacts stay closed. For it to have sparks contacts should be opened. This kill switch grounds the coil so the engine stops running

Why dont I have spark? V Star 1100 First lost my keys, had to hotwire bike, (still hotwired maybe this is the fault for no spark?) As the days passed I noticed the bike having more difficulty starting

Hi, Kahmaar nice novella sorry to hear about all your problems that were self-inflicted and yes you may have fried the ECM when jump starting with a running automobile and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting, leaking, spark plug cable connections loose check for spark leakage in the dark.
6. Faulty ignition coil or electronic control module.
7. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
8. Faulty ignition switch.
9. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
10. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

Pulled the choke bike wont start

Usually if you flood it (by overchoking), you open the throttle wide open (to draw in more air to lean the mixture) while cranking starter.
Beings you had the spark plugs out you could have cranked it then, and let the engine compression blow the excess gas out the spark plug holes.

I have a Schwinn Valo 150, 2009 model that consistently wont start, I have put in fresh gas, had it to the dealer who returned it and it wont start the next day, starter turns but no engine start. Any...

The dealer should get it going again ( at no cost ) because this first try didn't really fix the bike. When you get it back, ask specifically what the problem was and how they fixed the problem. This information may well help you in the future. If you tinker with the bike now, the dealer may claim that your tinkering is the cause. Chances are there is a bit of trash in the carb that is blocking the main jet. First thing to check however is the spark plug. Is the spark plug actually providing a spark? A bad kill switch or a maladjusted center or side stand switch would kill the spark.

Double check that the battery is connected right including the smaller positive wire( can be burned off and the bike won't charge. With the battery fully charged and the chaging system unplugged ( plug has a battery wire ( red ) a black wire ( ground) and three either yellow wires either that or white all the same color and size. UNplug this plug. Remove a spark plug and put thew wire back on it and lay it on the head or other ground and see if it sparks as the bike is charked ( be careful as it might start on the other cyclinder) If it sparks add a small amount of fuel to the air inlet to see if it'll start with a little extra fuel if it starts and dies then your looking for a fuel problem. This bike has a fuel pump and in nuetral with the kickstand up you shoud hear it come on as the keys turned on. If not your back to checking fuses and even the kickstand sawitch. kill switch ON? Fuel in tank new enough.?

Look under bike on kickstand. If there is a switch it will be right on the bracket which holds kickstand to bike.unplug wire and clean, somtimes is just dirt on contacts that causes the switch not to make up.use some wd 40 to clean and if there is any water in switch this will displace water and make switch operational.Worst case senario jump out switch and see if bike starts,If so replace switch and you good to go Good Luck.

My 1974 Yamaha 250 Enduro wont start I have cleaned and redone the carb. I have changed the coil pack and spark plug. Any suggestions will help Im not a mechanic by any means so not sure where to start...

you need good compression ( at least 90 psi , kicking it with the throttle open) , good crankshaft seals for sucking the fuel/air into the botton end, proper point gap and timing set for spark ( spark should be big and fat,if not the source coil is weak,, this is a flywheel magnito ignition and it needs no battery to fire the plug) if you clean the carb, make sure you also clean the choke pickup tube or it wont choke. also make sure you have the slide installed in the right direction ( not backwards and the idle is not set too high at first...compression/****-good spark at the right time-proper fuel/air ratio and it will run

Check the spark plug to see if is sparking. Hold the metal threads against the metal cylinder and have a friend kick the engine over. If no spark, use an ohmmeter to check the kill switch on the bars and also the side-stand kill switch if your bike has one. Check the wires for a loose connection or disconnected wire.

Four controls are on your bike to assist in starting. Below are generic instructions.
  • The choke, used when the engine is cold. Pull the red knob for choke.
  • The " Hot Start " Lever, used when the engine is hot. Pull the lever to lean the fuel mix when the engine has been running.
  • The de-compression lever, always used.
  • the throttle, used to prime the cylinder, (power valve).
Don't kick, instead, push the kick lever downward. You will feel the back pressure as the piston is going upward on the compression stroke to the point the pressure is great enough that the kick lever "locks up". You are very close to TDC. NOW, pull in the de-compression lever. push the kick lever a little bit more to get the piston past TDC. Now release the de-compression lever. Give the throttle a 1/4 turn then let it snap closed. A diaphragm, (Power valve), in the carb gives a shot of gas when this is done. DO NOT do this multiple times because you will flood the engine. Leave the throttle closed when kicking. A flooded engine will often backfire. Now give a strong kick through the full sweep of the kick start lever. Quickly get your foot off the kick lever at the end of the kick to avoid any chance of "kickback" from the kick lever. This happens in the case of a misfire, aka > backfire. It can be very painful, and can even break a leg. I am serious about that. Repeat the process (but without the throttle priming), for six kicks. After six kicks go ahead and twist the throttle again for a second priming. A good battery, a clean spark plug, a clean carb and clean air filter will also aid in starting. Note that not all carbs have a power valve. When a power valve is not present you should crack the throttle open only 1/8 inch from closed on each kick. Please take a moment and rate my answer. Thanks!

We have a 110 bike and it has run great but my son went out to start it and it just wont start we have to kick sart it all the time has the electric start needs re wired but it has always started no bother...

Get a new spark plug then check for spark. If no spark the n check the side stand kill switch and the handlebar kill switch. If spark is present then drain the carburetor. Water may have condensed in the gas tank and filled the float bowl with water. These are the two most likely causes for failure to start.

Bike wont idle and power constantly dieing and recovering

check to see if you have gas in the oil from a carb leaking down which will cause the idle speed to drop when motor warms up.pick up idle run for awhile then plugs foul.like you said a carby problem.
