Question about Yamaha V Star Classic Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a 2006 V-Star Classic. It had 3,600 miles

I have a 2006 V-Star Classic. It had 3,600 miles on it last year when I bought it. It had the Harley pipes on it and I went back to stock. I noticed a clacking sound. I first thought it was an exhaust leak. It wasn't. I had several people listen to it including a couple of dealers. Nobody knew what it was. I rode it from Texas to Calif. (4000 miles) The sound was still there. Had valves adjusted no change. At 12,000 one dealer asked if the noise level had changed and I said no, so he told me just keep riding. To me it sounds like peston slap. I have 18,000 and it might be a little bit louder, but not much. Does anyone know what I am up against.

I am assuming the left down tube is referring to the front left fork. As far as an air pump I inspected both tubes and there is no difference in the two. So, I am assuming the answer is no, there is no air pump. If my assumptions are incorrect please let me know. Thanks, Richard

It sounds like something internal to me but i could be wrong-maybe the loud pipes caused something to vibrate loose-do a real good inspection there are many books in library under 629 that are troubleshoot manuals on internal noises

My 2006 heritage odometer will keep total miles. It counts miles driven but once it is turned off and then back on, the milage total always goes back to 2882 total miles

If the speedometer is working and the odomter (mile counter) is not then clock is faulty. Replace as repair is not possible. If the speedo is not registering speed then the gearbox sensor is probably the cause.

Bike starts right up when choke is on or off. as soon as i giveit gas it stalls out and dies. i just put fresh gas in it. also, it only has about 3,000 miles on it. it's a yamaha v star 2006 1100...

There is a fuel setting issue and the mixture to the cylinder is not correct. It can be problems in the carburator, the air / fuel mixture settings, possible there is dirt clogging within any ports and choking.
When the throttle is raised there is insufficient fuel to the cylinder and so it shuts down. check the spark plug, the gaps and the timing.

Have a 06 Yamaha 1100 V-star classic, sat for a while before I bought it, front pipe is starting to blue and the idle increases after ya ride it for a couple miles. bike only has 3300 miles on it. could it...

Hi,

Pipe bluing indicates that cylinder is running lean, therefore too hot. Have you looked at the front spark plug? The insulator should be paper bag tan. Ash white and it's running lean.

The idle going high can be a vacuum leak. You can spray WD-40 (or propane) around the intake flanges when it's running, and if the engine changes speed, you've found the leak.
