Question about 1998 Honda XLR 125 R
Dear sir i own a honda xlr 125 1998 when i am out riding somtimes the engine completley dies so i have to pull in and stop then almost straight away it will restart this will happen afew times and then other times it is fine i have cleaned the fuel tank and fuel tap have stripped and cleaned the carbureter checked all wiring connections just wonder wheather you have any solutions thanks .
You definitely have a short, sometimes this is very easy to find or very hard, patience my friend. Apart from the ignition switch there is another switch that turns off the motor even though the ignition switch is on position, this might be on either side of the handles. This might be causing the problem this switch grounds the ignition coil and the engine turns off. I have heard a lot about this problem and this switch causes the problem. Maybe this might be your case

I have encountered also the same problem but with my Honda XLR 200R. I spent a lot on service, to the point that the mechanic changed my ignition coil and my wire harness but to no avail. I returned home and checked my CDI, and found a loose contact due to cold solder in the connector terminal. Hope this will help.
