Check it is not a selector
gear cable or internal gearbox syncro problem

did not think the shift stick goes direct into the gearbox

gear selector inspection
remove the console around it

see if the bushes are broken

Pull the shifter linkage out and inspect for worn or broken parts.

Was it overheating while you were driving? You may have warped your heads, especially if they're aluminum.

My Alfa Romeo 147 is apparently leaking oil from the rear main seal my mechanic told me that he needs to take the gear box out to change it is this correct and how long would this take approximately

the mechanic is right,to fix a rear seal you need to remove/take apart ALL the drive for this car.its a pig of a job for any car cos you (the customer)dont SEE any improvement.takes nearly all day.......
with all the right tools/lifting gear.

I have a alfa romeo 147 and its treck tronic, the thing is it gets stuck in gear. i was reversing in it and it wouldnt come out of reverse it just stayed, so i had to remove battery and it restarted

hmmm ,got me thinking this one?? and only think i can think of is the micro switches on the gearstick ,on the on the citreon convertaseaur they were at the bottom of the gear stick under the rubber boot
