I just fitted a gianelli exhaust expansion to my old Yamaha DT125 lc -87. The bike lost 20km/h with the new exhaust. It revs better and accelerates better but when I get it to 100km/h with 3rd gear at some...

Go to a smaller exhaust or a longer exhaust (not practical. Engines need some back pressure. That is why headers on dragsters are all of equal length.

Can any 1 help i got a dtr 125 03 model and its splutters after 7 grand in every gear it must be fuel/power valve problem

Firstly, when riding this bike do not ride past the splutter, this could be for. Number of reasons, ignition breaking down, wrong grade of spark plug ,fuel air mixture as an event of worn or damaged crankshaft seals, cdi ignition moduel, coil, ht lead arking out, does this have the original exhaust? Maybe it needs re jetting, has this bike always behaved like this or did the fault develope slowly? the list goes on

2002 WR250F from a rolling idle, rap the throtle once pretty good and it just bogs out. from a rolling idle gradual throtle runs fine. Idles fine now that we've cleaned the carb and got the slide plate...

G'day,
Your symptom screams out that the accelerator pump isn't working.
The carbies on these bikes have an accellerator pump set-up that squirts fuel down the center of the carby throat as you hit the accelerator & your symptom is exactly what hapens when it's not working.

To test this - remove the carby & re-connet it to the fuel line(& turn the fuel on) while holding it upright next to the bikes tank(to supply fuel to the carby).
Now opperate the throttle cam(or also re-connect the cables & use the throttle).
As you go from no throttle to full throttle fuel should squrt out the front of the carby.
If it dosn't then the pump is not working & is the cause of the problem.
Rectify this & the bike will scream again.

I hope this is helpfull- check the pump & if it's working good then let me know & I'll see what I can suggest
Regards Andrew Porrelli

Our Moto Guzi Nevada is surging all the time and has been back to a dealer several times and they cant find out what it wrong with it. · Inspect for running rough etc + put on axone scan tool + test...

I am not a Moto Guzi mechanic but in the world of Japanese bikes the problem would be trash in the carb partially blocking the main jet and / or internal fuel circuits. Tighten all fittings, carb to manifold as air leaks could be contributing to the problem. If your bike has fuel injection, have the fuel pump checked. Be sure the gas tank venting is not plugged whether carb or injection. Check and clean the filter screens on the pickup tubes inside the gas tank. Be certain the exhaust pipes are clear of obstructions. An internal collapse inside an exhaust pipe can restrict air flow. The bike can not run properly if it can't get rid of burned gasses. Remove the exhaust pipes briefly to eliminate the exhaust system as a problem. I guess I should mention the obvious, how clean is the air filter? Bikes gotta breathe in and out too. If these ideas don't help, just re-post the problem and perhaps someone else has an idea. Best wishes.

Your bike may be jetted too lean. A common problem in these days of overzealous EPA regulations. You can tell if when you've cranked your throttle wide open and it splutters, if you back off on the throttle about 1/8 to 1/4 turn, it clears up. This is indicating that it is jetted too lean. When you close the throttle slightly, the fuel is being metered by the main jet and by backing off on the throttle a bit, you're cutting back on the air, thereby bringing the mixture closer to what the engine needs. Try rejetting the carb, Go up one or two sizes on the main jet, one step at the time.

Now, it could be too rich as well. If it splutters and blows black smoke out the exhaust, it either jetted too rich or the float level in the carb is set wrong.

Take care of the simple stuff first before rejetting the carb. Make sure your spark plugs are the correct ones and they are not fouled from overusage of the choke or enricher. If you allow the bike to "warm up" with the enricher on, plug fouling is common with this practice. I get the bike started and as soon as it will run without the enricher or choke on, I turn it off and keep the bike running with the throttle. Don't foul as many plugs that way.

1. The carb could need cleaning.
2. Sounds like the exhaust pipe needs to be de-carbed.
