Question about 2000 Yamaha V-Max

1 Answer

I am restoring a Yamaha xv 1000 (TR1). The bearings went on the conrods and need to be resized. The problem is we don't know what that does to the codes to work out the bearing colour (we think the crankshaft is a standard 50mm, but not sure about the conrods. We have been told to buy new, but restoration is what we want to do. Is it possible?

Yamaha xj650 .can u replace crankshaft bearing on no.4 conrod without the others. If bearing needs replacing (white bearing) does crank shaft have to be engineered and if so can one use any bearing that...

If are going to change the conrod bearing, it's much safer to change all of them, for the simple reason that at you know that it will be a while until you run in the same problem, and also due to the fact that if one did it's time, the others will soon follow suite. Now for the crank shaft it seems that you left the engine without enough oil so the moving parts overheated. about machining the crank you have to check with the manufacturers about the material they use to see if the metal will remain strong enough after being in the lathe. Now for the last point of attention no you cannot just put any bearings that fit and that is due to the high revs and stress that they will be under, normal bearings would seize up/disintegrate in seconds. in that kind of situation always go to manufacturer specified, or original parts (if you can find).

Conrod bearings need to be replaced in the engine that is 3y engine model for hilux and i want to know whether any adjustments needs to be done after installing the bearings

If the bearings need replacing the crankshaft will need grinding. After the crank has been ground you will have to buy suitable main and conrod bearings EG: 10thou undersize.
After fitting new bearings to the reground crank no adjustment is necessary.
