Question about 1983 Honda CBX 550 F-F2

1 Answer

CBX550 carburettor vacuum system

I have chopped my CBX550 and subsequently cant fit the original air box/filter on so have a reasonably good but bodged air filter system with 2 cone filters. Theres fuel spewing out of the 2 left carbs and overflow pipe and dont really know how to set up the vacuum system which i think might have something to do with it. Its running without the vacuum fuel tap too but ive been told that shouldnt make any difference.
This has been way to long off the road please help!! Simon

Hi Simon,
Fuel over flowing from the carburators/over flow pipe means the float pins are not sealing off.
You will have to remove the carbs and the float bowls to check the pins and will have to adjust the floats too .
The vaccum fuel tap runs or rather allows fuel to pass by once the engine is running (thus creating vaccum) if you check around the inlate or the carburator mountings, in one of it you will find where to plug in tht pipe.
Hope this helps!

I have a 1990 ZX600c I cant keep it running, I have no air cleaner box or vacuum system so what would I do?

the carburettors are designed to be run with an airbox there are pipes that force air into the carbs while its running to lift the diapragms up and if there are any leaking vaccum pipes from the inlet side of the carbs it will suck in air and run weak .best thing to do is put the airbox back on it.

1i want to know how an where to fit a stage 6 proformance air filter to aerox.

On the carburettor, air being drawn into the carburettor is air that needs to be filtered. Simply remove the standard air box and fit the stage6 one. But don't forget; a stage6 filter will let more air get drawn into the engine, the more extra air need extra fuel to burn otherwise you will be running lean (to much air to fuel ratio). Running an engine lean will cause it to run hotter, if engine gets too hot it will cause the piston to become seized. So if your going to fit a free flow air filter don't forget to up-jet your carburettor.

When i change my original air box 2 cold air what do i do with the 2small vacume lines 2 the original air box?

best thing to do is find a way to connect the vacuum lines to the new cold air intake. best way is probably drill a hole is pipe and tack on or silver solder some little air fittings for the vacuum lines to fit onto, otherwise you can do it the bodge way and just drill tight fit holes in the pipe so the hose push tight into it.

When i start my 88 golf gl in the morning the rpm's fluxuate between 1000 and 2000 rpms is that normal?

No, thats not normal, this may be caused by low coolant level or a vacuum leak and last the idle air control valve may be dirty or bad. first start by making sure the coolant levl is full, do this when its cool, make sure to open radiator cap to check, if coolant is good then the next thing is to look and listen for a hissing sound as a vacuum leak would make and see if you can locate any vacuum lines off or broken and last would be to remove the idle air control valve and clean it with throtlebody clean and make sure the ports on it and the intake or throtlebody where it bolts to are clear and not plugged, if cleaning doesnt help then you may need to replace it. good luck, hope this helps you.

Sorry but your explination is not to good, The mixture cant be adjusted and probably wont need to be if your bike is in good order, has it been serviced recently ?. First fit new air filter allways original ,after-market ones ruin the mixture and wont make it go any faster.! Then carefully check the exhaust for leaks as this will cause backfire, poor response. I dont know if this helps so get in touch again with more details if not thanks. p.s check the air box is tight with no air leaks or holes drilled into it.

Probabilly a stuk carburettor float or needle.
Try to solve this problem to gently tap on the carburettor bodies. If this doesn't help you have to clean out the carburettors, and/or replace the float neeldes
