Pedaling bike but wont move

Perhaps there is a gear with stripped thread where it attaches to the sprocket or the sprocket itself with stripped thread? In any of these cases, the whole sprocket should be replaced and in the second case the sprocket and hub. This accounts only for 6 or 7 gear sprockets.

Starter turns but bike engine does not

Hi, Anonymous the starter drive/Bendix/clutch is a mechanical gear driven component that engages the clutch pack ring gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one direction and once the engine starts allows the drive gear to free spin. If gear free spins in both directions then the drive gear has failed it is not serviceable and needs to be replaced. I need an owners manual for a pacific evolution bike

Are you sure the derailer or sprocket are not bent? The next thing if not that is the cable itself is it pulling the delairer to release the gear from the gear it is in? one final is the bike just may not go into 6th gear depending on which gear you have the front sprocket in because it would pull the front sprocket to far past the crank space where the pedals are at.

The pedals will turn but the wheel does not

The rear set of gears, called the "Freewheel" are shot, and need to be replaced. You can find another wheel, but this will probably prove to be difficult, or you can pay for a new freewheel or your bike shop may give you an old one for a discount.
Good luck

How to inprove engine power by modification of exhaust system in motorcycle

Hi,
Modifying one part of your bike will some effect from another.
If you modify the exhaust system it won't guarantee a bigger additional power, it only just help the exhaust from the engine to go out faster. Become noisy too!
You must modify the piston, carburetor, crankshaft drive gear, and rear wheel gear to have the optimum power advantage you desire for real power from your bikes engine.
May I suggest, instead of the exhaust modification, you should start in the gearing system( crank gear sprocket, rear wheel sprocket, and chain )
Hope that helps you.
Thanks for using FixYa!

Starter works but gears seem to free spin, wont crank engine

sounds like the sprag clutch has failed. If you can see the large gear that sits behind the rotor and its turning but the rotor isnt turning the sprag clutch has failed. Very costly. usualy you would have a missed start eg not engaging every now and then before this fails all together.

Have 350 dirt bike kick start was ok left bike shed for a while used kickstart ok but next time it appears jammed wont move tried rocking in gear to free up but no go. Do you have an idea as to what might...

Assuming the engine will turn over, the ratcheting assembly on the kick starter may be worn. Remove the kick start lever and then the side cover, (place a pan under the bike to catch any oil). The kick starter is basically just a gear and a spring; the gear will in some manner engage the flywheel, (sometimes indirectly). Make sure there is nothing obvious wrong such as broken teeth or debris lodged in the mechanism.

The other possibility if the engine does not move when rolled is the timing chain may have jumped teeth on the cam sprocket. To get to this remove the gas tank, remove all but the rear engine mounting bolts, remove the valve cover. To check remove the fly wheel cover set the piston to Top Dead center, (TDC) on the compression stroke and make sure the mark on the cam sprocket is at the top of the sprocket and not off set.

Good luck.

We removed starter from a 1983 Honda Goldwing 1100. Is there a special trick to installing it? When trying to replace starter it goes in except for the last half inch.

the starter is the tensioner, there is an internal besides that as well. This is one of the most difficult out there that is for sure. You may have to rotate the engine or starter gear subtly to get everything to line up. Let me know if you have any other concerns.

Have noise in front of primary only with passenger on bike in second gear knocking clattering sound from

Sound like a loose Compensator nut.

The compensator nut is the part (the nut) that attaches the front sprocket to the motor crank.

When a cylinder of a v-twin fires there is a very strong power pulse. To keep from shaking the bike and rider apart these pulses have to be "smoothed" out. Harley does this by NOT solidly attaching the front sprocket to the engine - they use a "compensating sprocket".

A crank shaft extension, double sprocket, sliding cam, and a stiff spring together form a "compensating sprocket". When a cylinder fires, the power stroke is smoothed out by the action of the compensator cam and springs.

The compensator nut is what holds the compensating sprocket assembly on the crank.

There are a LOT of forces acting on this nut and sometimes the nut loosens up. A loose compensator nut results in a compensating sprocket that can move laterally on the crank. A loose compensator nut therefore is one potential source of engine vibration.

Harley-Davidson issued service bulletin a while back that changed the procedure for tightening the compensator nut, after a spate of bikes had problems with this nut working loose.

Check with your local Dealer to get the correct torque spec and procedure for your year bike.
