It could be moisture yes, could be electrical if the wires and plugs are older they will crack and in humid or rainy weather they would be worse-or when they are cold.

Cant start my VT250. Its beeb stocked for a year.

the most likely problem is; 1-old gas, 2-carb is now gummed up from old gas.

Start off by draining all of the old fuel from the tank, fuel lines and carb. Get a can of spray carb cleaner and clean jets, idle circuit and float valve. you can use a strand of wire from speaker wire to probe the openings in jets.

My Son's 2007 TTR 230 sputters and has trouble starting. The guy we bought it from said the gas sat for about a year. We pulled the carb off and had it cleaned. Any suggestions?

When you cleaned the carb, did you remove ALL of the jets and make sure you can see light through them? Also, some pilot jets have holes on the sides that plug up and are almost invisible. Look closely, and spray carb cleaner through all passages and make sure it comes out somewhere else.
Good Luck!

Just bought a 10 year old lawn boy 2 cyl mower from my neighbor. He had not used it for 5 yrs (heart problems). I put the 2 cyl ashless oil into the gas like the instructins said 32/1 mix. That turned out...

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it
run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,
but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you
buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will
get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, count the
number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns
they were in/out.
Please do not forget to rate me, Thanks
Good Luck, I hope this helps

My trimmer will start on choke but dies when you squeeze the trigger

depends on how old the trimmer is .. if its old then modern gas really messes with the fuel lines, primer bulbs and other rubber/plastic parts .. use only alcohol free gas in old equipment .. .. if its just a few years old then you may have a clogged high speed jet in the carburator or you could have bad gas (old) .. if its fresh gas then you have to clean or replace the main jet .. often you can remove the jet by removing the float chamber then a small filter . the jet is screwed inside a small hole usually in the center ... its tempting but dont use wire to clean out the jet .. if you scratch the jets precision holes then the mixture wont be accurate .. replair parts places often have a stock of jets .. also replacement carburators. to reduce the problem of jet clogging always drain fuel if the unit is not going to be used for awhile .. never try to use last years gas .. clean the tank once in a while .. and on old equipment dont use alcohol blended gas (most of todays gas) or replace all hoses filters and rubber parts with alcohol resistant versions .. (not easy to find)

Won't start, has "varnish" from fuel

Does it have a fuel pump or is it gravity fed? If gravity fed, when you rebuilt the carb, did you make sure that the main (power) jet orifice was totally clean? No varnish or residue in the hole. Pressurized air or carb cleaner spray into the jet is a good way to test flow restrictions. It sounds like a clogged main jet or a vacuum leak at the carb to manifold gasket. You might want to flush the gas tank and replace the gas cap also, as evaporating fuel over time will leave behind varnish deposits if the cap doesn't seal, even though it is a vented cap.

Amana Air Command 80, 20 years old. Electronic ignition. Furnace does not start. Good power to furnace. Themostat properly set. Where do I start looking? Bob

Hello Bob,
Welcome to fixya,

You said, Amana Air Command 80, 20 years old.
Electronic ignition.
Furnace does not start.
Good power to furnace.
Thermostat properly set.
Where do I start looking?

Sounds like you possibly have one or more bad jets if the unit is a gas furnace!
Let me know how it goes.
Huuum

WOW, listen to this story!
I understand you are looking for the solution to fix your furnace your self.
But I want to tell you my story about my smart wife and our furnace.
When we moved into this house the furnace was 20 years old and she suggested that we put a new one that it will save us money.
I laughed at her and replied if it's not broken why fix it!
Six years later it finally broke down and I replaced the whole furnace and central air unit with a new one.
Our utility bill went down $100 dollars a month!
That's $7200. that I lost over 6 years due to not respecting my wife's power of reasoning!
If you can afford it or can get financing replace any unit 20 years old and it will pay for it self.
Can you imaging $1200. a year for 20 years is $24,000 dollars I'm saving with a new and efficient unit.
Do the math!!!!!!!!!

Thank You,
Huuum, Hope I gave you some good fatherly advice.
