Blocked vent stack or wind blowing the wrong way. Chimney need cleaning? Try opening a window a crack. It can make it better or worse.

Your manufacturer, Toyotomiusa, recommends that you tighten all the joints on the fuel line. Your owner's manual CLICK HERE contains detailed drawings showing the location of all parts, including the fuel injector. Your unit will need to be serviced by a qualified technician if you have tightened the connectors and still smell kerosene or find wet spots under your heater. It should not leak or smell of kerosene. If you're smelling kerosene, you should not operate the unit, because the leak may cause a fire.

My ride on mower has started to leak petrol into the engine oil, fuel is gravity fed so I presume that it is seeping via the inlet valv, will an overhaul of the cylinder head complete with changing the...

Hi, no that is not the problem. The fuel is getting in through the inlet valve but it is caused by the needle and float in the carby not holding the gravity fed fuel pressure. It can be caused by a worn needle, incorrect float height or debris under the needle. Basically remove the carby, remove the float and needle, blow it out, check or replace the needle and make sure that when the needle is closed the float is sitting parallel with the carby body(holding the carby upside down with the needle and float assembled is the simplest way to check this). Also fitting an inline fuel tap will prevent this happening in future as the fuel leaks mainly when the mower is parked up. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

Old emerson electric window fan, does it need oil or to be oiled, my dad has had for many years, I've been noticing a burning smell when fan runs for a long period of time

  • First think I think when I hear of a burning smell is have you cleaned out the motor housing real well lately. Lots of fuzz, dust, etc can build up in there and make that motor really work hard and start to make it want to overheat or over heat. Unplug the fan and take a tooth pic and get in the motor assembly and pull the lint etc out of there with it. Some canned air may help a bit to once things are loosened up.
  • As for lubricating the fan you won't oil it. The motor spins the fan so there is nothing to lubricate. When the motor goes the the fan stops so the best thing you can do is strip that fan the best you can and wash and dry the parts real good and clean the motor housing out real well to let that motor breath as much as possible.
  • When a fan motor gets old and is worked real hard it can get hot by default and things will smell hot. If the fan has already been cleaned real well the best thing you can do is give it a break more frequently or look into a replacement motor.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

My toyostove is making the room stinks(burned dieseal ) smell. What is causing this?

Something to check would be the exhaust vent for leaking. We just replaced our old Monitor 40 because it was making some terrible exhaust smells in our house and it turned out their was a crack on the exhaust line just where it enters the stove. May be worth looking into. They are a lot cheaper than a whole unit!

Smell of oil throughout the house when the boiler is on

Other than the stench of fuel oil permeating every soft surface throughout the house, there are numerous health hazards associated with exposure to petrochemical vapors. Shut the unit off until you can get it repaired.

Fuel Oil Smell in House

With any internal combustion devise it needs oxygen to combust the fuel, I suspect that your house is sealed shut to keep out the cold.  I suggest that you raise a window slightly so as to cause a draft for the heater. Be sure that the raised window is not between people and the heater because the cold air will pass over them and they will get very chilled.
This is the same fix for smoking fireplaces.
