How to repair a flooding carburater


if the carburetor keeps flooding out, the float could be stuck in the up position. tap lightly on & around fuel reservoir to free. depending on age of carburetor, you might need to put in a carburetor kit.

I need to know the proper tuning of ucal mikuni carburetor with mixture adjusting screw on bottom of cabr (beneath float bowl), an idle adjust screw and pilot screw (hopefully pilot fuel screw since s


Why did you need to clean the carb? Routine servicing of the aircleaner would keep the carb clean for life. The pilot screw should be 1.5 turns out approx. with a small adjustment either way. Idle speed is set to a smooth low idle.If this doesn't fix it have you got something in the carb not replaced correctly? The float needle/float assy? How did you clean it? Have you introduced fluff/dirt into the carb and did you blow it clean with an airline?

Does the spring loaded screw on the carburetor bowl on the 15hp liquid cooled engine adjust the float level?


No. A metal float is adjusted by slightly bending the small metal tangs on the float that hold the retaining pin as it hangs from the main carburetor body . If you feel the need to adjust the level of the float, your normal setting is with the float "level" in relation to the lower carburetor body. That is in it's raised position when it has sealed the fuel inlet by pushing the float needle all the way into it's seat; thus shutting off fuel flow into the bowl.

The air/fuel screws won't have any effect on the top end. That would be governed by the main jet. Did you install the Boyseen Reeds? If this is a new addition it could be the problem. Another thing could be the fuel level in the carburetor bowl. When you tore down the carb it is possible the float got out of adjustment. You could drop the bowl and see if the fuel level is correct. If not, bend the tab on the float to adjust it.

Need setting for carb. adjuster on bottom of carb right at edge of float bowl. Float bowl has indentation to go around this fuel needle adjuster.


Turn the adjusting screw all the way in until it LIGHTLY seats. Now back it out one and one half turns. Do the same adjustment for the throttle screw on the right side of the carb. You are now back to the stock factory settings.

My 1993 kx 250 runs great but it will not idle ??


ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors.

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side or bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Install a new stock NGK spark plug. Remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
< < READ CLOSELY > >
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

Fuel bowl on my 50cc scooter keeps empting and killing the engine I keep adjusting the carb fuel screw on the carb but I still have the Fuel bowl empting. Does anyone know if I need to turn the fuel screw...


It has nothing to do with the adjustments, what is going on is your float is stuck in the carb , you will have to take the float bowl off , float is sticking than you will have to try and clean the needle and seat valve.

Fuel draining out as soon as filled


ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher at hand when working on carburetors.
Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

This is a carb float being stuck open.
Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Next, turn the gas back on and sharply tap the float bowl with the plastic handle of a screwdriver as the fuel bowl refills. The goal here is to vibrate the float to free it up. If doing this process a couple of times doesn’t free the float and fix the overflow problem, remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
