Hi Anonymous, you might want to visit your local golf course and speak with some one in maintenace. 6-packs in a brown paper bag are great conversation starters. Good luck

No spark

You didn't give a YEAR/MODEL, but from your saying you changed the generator (rather than the ALTERNATOR), I presume you have a pre-1970 Harley, right?

1971 Harley davidson sportster electric starter quit working after 1 mnth

Two things to check:

1. there is a 4 pin black starter relay maybe 1" cube, usually under the seat, that goes bad. since they are impossible to get from Harley, go to JPcycles.com and get a new one. I have to replace mine every year or so.

2. Disconnect the battery. Open the Starter's attached solenoid cover. There is a copper bar that gets pitted. If it hasn't been done before, flip it over. Otherwise try to clean it up. Replacing would be a good idea if you could find one. Otherwise buy copper stock from Mcmaster-Carr and make one.

It ain't easy owning an old school Sportster... It's an adventure!

2003 dyna starter turns but wont engage, new battery fitted

Hi Anonymous, lift up rubber boot on positive cable to starter, unplug starter relay wire usually green, with a jumper wire connected to positive battery cable starter stud, touch blade connecter on starter where starter relay wire was removed. If starter engages and turns over engine then your starter relay is bad. If starter activates but does not engage then your starter drive/clutch is bad. Good luck

Harley Davidson Iron 883 model button start system not working after installing screaming eagle muffler bike is 2 months old

Look at the end of your starter. There's a five-sided plate on the end held on with three small screws. Just above it, there is a single wire plugged onto the starter. Pull this wire off and connect either a test light or a volt meter to the wire. Turn the switch on and press the start button. You should see the light light up or the meter should show battery voltage. If you show voltage at this wire but the starter doesn't run, the problem is in the starter. If no voltage at the wire, your starter relay may be bad. I think the starter relay for your bike is behind the triangular plate on the left side of your bike. The relay is a one inch plastic cube just like the relays on most automobiles. With the switch still on, press the start button. You should feel the relay "click". If it does click, you might want to replace the relay and retest the starter wire. If it does not click, it could still be the relay or it could be the wiring between the start button and the starter relay. Since I don't have a wiring diagram for your bike, you may need to purchase a service manual to obtain one or find it from another source. I wouldn't think the installation of a muffler would have anything to do with the starter operation.

Good Luck
Steve

Replaced battery. engine will not crank. 2003 harley

Sounds like your starter relay under your seat. take a jumper wire from your batter positive to the starter you will be touching the large copper stud under the rubber grommet. if the motor kicks in its your starter relay,

Won't start?

With just this info. Not knowing if the engine is stock or has bigger cams or high comp pistons.I would say check the starter solenoid by running jumper wire from one side to the other.then check ALL connections for corrosion and tightness

Starter dragging problem

You added an extra ground but did nothing with the positive cable. It's time to replace that one, possibly using better quality cable then stock.
