Question about 2003 Harley Davidson FXD Dyna Super Glide

1 Answer

My 2003 super glide has a trickle charger on it and I had a new battery put in so it wasn't hooked up. The cable on the battery was not capped and it was touching metal, would that drain the battery?

Can anyone tell me what and where this plugs into. 2003 Honda shadow 600 vlx.

Looks like a battery charger plug (for trickle charging off-season). Does it always have 12v across the terminals? If so, it's a battery charging plug.

When you turn the key you get nothing at all?
perhaps you put the cables on the wrong way and shorted something out?
or maybe the wires arent tight enough on the battery?
did you try hooking up booster cables? often when you buy a new battery it comes uncharged and needs to be charged properly on a good trickle charger.

hopefully you didnt hook the battery up backwards and short out the ECM...

Battery not charging on 2003 super glide

Hi Anonymous, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12 volts or better after charging.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. To test voltage regulator go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor. Good luck

The shippers disconnected the battery connection and it is here in the islands and They didnot show me what they did.

The battery is inits place? The two battery cables are on Lh and RH of battery?
Find a RED band or marking indicating POSITIVE cable and a completely BLACK one is for Ground/NEGATIVE cable.
See if you can find a " + " and a " - " terminal mark on batterry. If you have then bolt the RED cable to POSITIVE terminal and BLACK to NEGATIVE terminal.
Best advise is to have the battery trickle/slow charged overnight before starting the bike up.
Good luck. If you find this advise helpful then rate it. Thanks.

My 2003 FLHTCI sat for six weeks or so and needed a charge to start. Got it home and put it on a 2 volt trickle charger ver night. Started one time then no more. Bought new battery, running and charging...

No, the battery should charge at 14.5 to 15.0 volts. No problem. The 12.5 to 13.5 is not high enough to keep your battery charged especially if you do a lot of night time riding. You're fine.

Good Luck
