No its not normal something has gone wrong somewhere for this to happen, sounds like something was loose or came loose at the time this happened.and if its only nine months old take it back to where you got it from and tell them what has happened.

Got a 2002 sportster and it lunges from time to time in first and second. It starts to go and then hangs for a second and lunges so fast it almost throws you off the bike. I Checked all the adjustments

Your clutch pack is coming apart from the inside. You have a pressure plate thatbis riveted together and the rivets are coming loose.... the outet primary needs to come off and the clutch pack needs to be pulled apart. I would order all new fibers and steels.

Customer complaint

Have you ever replaced the clutch plates ?? Either clutch needs adjusted, or clutch plates need replaced, could just be the drive plate, which is the first outer plate, It is 9 years old this is a normal thing that happens. Any more Questions please ask, I rebuild bikes all the time. JOHN

I'm after a diagram for installing the clutch inside the engine

Go to the folowing website and you can see a diagram of the clutch. Follow the diagram for installation sequence. You didn't say exactly what year, model and cc your bike is, but clutches have the 1st and last plate as a fiber friction disk. So the secquence is fiber friction plate, metal pressure plate, fiber, metal, fiber, etc.. Sometimes the 1st and last friction plates are 5 to 10 thousandths thicker at the cork surface than the rest of the friction disks. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

How do i relpace my clutches and install new ones

Remove the left side cover to expose the clutch. Remove the outer pressure plate by removing the 6 bolts and springs. You can now remove the first friction plate. Then a metal pressure plate, then friction, metal, friction, etc.. The first and last friction plates are a few thousandths of an inch thicker than the rest of the friction plates. When installing the new plates, be sure the two thicker friction plates are at each end of the clutch. A complete diagram of your clutch can be found at the following website. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

97 jeep wrangler sport, mechanic changes clutch

If the pilot bearing was the problem it would make noise with the clutch pushed and go away when you let it out. Have you checked the fluid level in the transmission?

I NEED VIEW OF CLUTCH PLATE ASSEMBBLY. DOES THE LAST PLATE NEED TO BE STAGGERED FROM THE FINGERS OFF THE REST OF THE CLUTCHES? THE ONE THE PRESSURE PLATE RIDES ON. WHY DOES THIS ONE HAVE A DIFFERENT PART...

The first friction plate and the last friction plate are just a bit thicker than the rest. All the fingers on the friction plates fit into the outer hub slots. There is a metal pressure plate between the friction plates. Go to www.babbittsonline.com/parts/viewbybrand/parts.aspx Select your bike then go to 'clutch" on the drop down list. You can see an exploded diagram of the clutch (and the rest of the bike as well). Please rate my answer.

I have a 05 Yamaha yz85 and I would like to know how to put in new clutch plates in

Just remove the right engine case cover and the clutch is accessible.
Remove the five spring retainer bolts and springs then remove the pressure plate. Remove the fiber friction plates and the metal pressure plates then reassemble with new fiber friction plates. The metal pressure plates will not need replacing unless they are warped. Warped plates are extremely rare.

Reassemble per the diagram below. Note that the first plate and the last plate are fiber plates and are just a bit thicker than the rest of the friction plates. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

Clutch Problems

slave cylinder and line were replaced at a local dealership. Last year prior to the repair the clutch wouldn't disengage once the clutch had warmed up. It was working fine after the repair. Now along with the new problems there is a whining sound at every speed that I travel at. The sound had never been there before. During operation after the bike is moving the bike operates normally no slipping in the clutch no hesitation, operates as normal just doesn't sound normal. I'm thinking about replacing the clutch pack, basket, throwout bearing, and pressure plate bolts, but will all that really solve the problem. Especially since I don't really know whats going on. Sorry for the wordiness but any help would be appreciated,I had a similar symptom after installing a new Barnett clutch pack. The clutch worked fine when fully engaged, finding neutral was fine, etc. However, everynow and then, when taking off from a stop in first, the engagement point would change from the middle of the lever range to the end of the lever range. The first time it happened it caught me out and I almost fell over while trying to take off from an uphill stop and turn. Anyway, I took the clutch pack out, cleaned the friction plates with contact cleaner, cleaned the drive plates with a Scotchbrite pad, and put it back together. The problem has not reoccurred since.,,,
