Question about Motorcycles

Where is the starter motor and solenoid located on r1100gs ? Battery is fully charged but all I get is a click when I press the starter button

It's ok I found it, but starter won't turn, it just clicks. Maybe a faulty inhibitor switch somewhere??

New battery, but the bike does not crank when start button is pushed - what could be wrong? The bike still has the original starter motor.

Hi, Stanley and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Bank angle sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled to the "OFF" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. Faulty starter button/switch.
6. Faulty jiffy stand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
7. Security alarm needs a reset.
8. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
9. Electric starter shaft pinion gear is not engaging or over-running starter clutch slipping.

Tw200 electrical schematic

hi
few things
new batteries only hold a little charge in them
so make sure it is fully charged
if your bike is making a clicking noise when you press the starter but is still not turning it is your starter solenoid
if it is making a clicking noise then your starter motor has seized and your solenoid is ok
if not making a clicking noise
it is possible your starter solenoid is broken and will need replacing
easy test is the starter solenoid has two electric poles on it
one going to the battery the other going to your starter motor
get a large spanner (wrench)
and with the ignition turned on
touch both poles with the spanner
("caution") this will spark a little so make sure there is no fuel close by
if the engine turns over
then your solenoid needs replacing

Battery fully charged but only getting a clicking from the starter relay

If the battery is fully charged (test it with a good volt meter), and the solenoid is good (prove this by measuring the volts on the battery side of the solenoid when pressing the start button) and it still will not start, suspect the starter or the wire from the soleniod to the starter.

Hyosung GV 650 wont start. Battery is fully charged and starter don't even click when trying to start?

Hi,
This will be either the starter solenoid is faulty or the starter motor needs replacing.Have the solenoid checked before removing the starter motor.

Wont start

If your battery is fully charged it sounds like you have a starter issue. The solenoid is clicking but the starter motor is fried.

1994 sportster wont turn over when pressing ignition switch, you hear a click from the breaker area.the wires from the 50 amp fuse to the ignition get hot.

Look for a bad connection between the battery and the starter solenoid, or between the battery and earth ( The bike frame) HD,s are prone to power drops where the connections are loose or dirty. another possibility , is that the starter motor itself has jammed up. To test this, get a decent fully charged 12v battery and a set of jumper leads. Disconnect the bikes original battery. With the jumper leads, place the black (neutral) wire onto the body of the starter motor. Locate the main power feed to the starter solenoid, its usually on the top of the starter motor and has a round rubber insulator covering it. Make sure the bike is not in gear. Better still, get someone to sit on it with the brakes on. CAREFULLY touch the starter solenoid terminal with the active battery lead, With the Red, (active) jumper lead. The starter , if its OK, should spin the engine over. If it does, you will know the starter is Ok and the problem is on your bike.. wiring , battery etc. If it doesnt turn over or the leads get hot, the starter is faulty and will require stripping out and servicing.. Good luck.

My sportster won't start. I just confrimed the battery is fully charged. All electronics work properly. When I press the starter, all you hear is the clicking from the engine.

That is the starter motor not turning but the solenoid cutting in.
Place a test lamp on the fat wire that connects to the starter motor from the solenoid and press start. If the lamp lights the brushes have worn out in the starter motor. If it doesn't ligt the solenoid is faulty.
Hope that helps.

1999 intrepod wont start have power on stario and light wont turn over just keeps clicking

Check your battery first.,If that's fully charged then the solenoid on the starter motor is faulty.Replace the starter motor if the battery is ok.

My car dont star, i check my ligths and averything is ok, i listen under de motor a little click click i hit in the starter whit a screw

If ur getting a clicking noise when u attempt to start it sounds like the starter drive ingaging into the flywheel but the starter isn't turning. Check ur battery to make sure it is fully charged and get a load test to make sure it is ok. Next check the connettions to the battery. Ur Problem wasn't complete--if crossing terminals at the starter the engine turns over it is the starter soloid, if it just clicks it is the battery or connections

Honda CB 250 1998-will not start, just clicking, battery is ok

Hi, Your problem lies with the starter solenoid, although you maybe using a fully charged battery to jump it, it appears to be sticking or possibly faulty due to trying to start with poor battery.
The starter solenoid is usually located on or near the Battery compartment, it is cylindrical and has two heavy wires attached to it 1 goes to the starter motor the other to the battery. If you are carefull you can by pass the solenoid by touching the heavy wire going to the starter motor with the jumper lead. Make sure the jump battery is connected and both the NEGATIVE leads are well secure. Put the NEGATIVE lead from jump cable direct to a engine mount bolt or engine itself Not the battery.
