Question about Honda Motorcycles

I currently have a Honda GL1000 and a Honda GL1100. I was wondering if it is possible for me to swap the heads? I'm trying to put the one from the 1100 on to the 1000.

Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part and/or the notation "Not Available" is in the description, the part is not in stock.

It looks like they have the right hand switch in stock. I hope that is the one you need. If that doesn't help, Google motorcycle salvage honda and also classic motorcycle parts honda.

    • The Gold Wing Interstate can trace its roots to 1972 when Honda conceived a grand touring motorcycle based on the five- and six-cylinder racing superbikes of the 1960s. The new bikes dubbed the Gold Wing would feature a liquid-cooled four- or six-cylinder engine. In 1975, the Gold Wing GL1000 debuted with a boxer 999 cc four-cylinder engine. A year later, Honda launched the GL1000 Limited Edition, equipped with a chrome radiator, quilt-patterned seat and gold wheels.
    GL1100 Interstate
    • Following much clamoring from Honda enthusiasts, Honda launched the dressed GL1100 Gold Wing Interstate in 1980. It was the top trim level at the time, vs the Standard. Honda more or less copied the aftermarket bolt-on accessories available in motorcycles parts shops. In fact, the fairing, which is the windscreen and fiberglass protection mounted at the front of the bike to protect the rider, was not even a Honda option until the Interstate arrived. Honda now considered the Gold Wing GL1100 a true tourer with its Interstate model. However, many owners were never truly satisfied with the design as Honda focused more on performance than bodywork styling. In 1984, Honda dropped the Standard (unfaired) model altogether, and introduced the GL1200, with a 94-horsepower four-cylinder boxer engine. The GL1200 ceased production in 1987.
    GL1500 Interstate
    • Honda began tinkering with the idea of a larger Gold Wing tourer in 1984 and tested 15 different types of bikes to come with six-cylinder engine displacing 1500 cc. The result was the GL1500 that arrived in 1988. The engine was the boxer six-cylinder engine displacing 1520 cc. However, by 1984, Honda had dropped the Standard and the Interstate was Honda's base trim model under Aspencade and later, the LTD and SE trims. The Interstate's luxury accents disappeared, as Honda did not equip the 1991 models with cruise control or an onboard air suspension compressor. The stereo system was a low-end basic model and the bike did not have a reverse gear like other Honda models. Honda ceased production of the Interstate in 1996.
    GL1500 Interstate Specs
    • The Honda Gold Wing GL1500 Interstate featured a liquid-cooled four-stroke boxer six-cylinder engine with a 2.8-inch bore and 2.5-inch stroke. It had four valves per cylinder and developed 100 horsepower and 110 foot-pounds of torque. A six-speed shaft-driven transmission matched the engine. It rode on an 18-inch front tire and a 16-inch tire in the rear. Stopping power came from dual 11.6-inch front disc brakes with two-piston calipers and a single 12.4-inch rear disc brake with two-piston calipers. The tourer's seat only stood 30.1 inches tall and the frame sat on a 66.5-inch wheelbase. Its dry weight was a hefty 772 lbs. The fuel tank held 6.1 gallons.

I have a 1981 honda gl1100. i am having a noise when i first open the trottle. it sounds like a knock in the engine. i have set cam timing and valves according to the honda service manual. it also feels...

With a 1981 motorcycle specially the GL1100 I'm going to speculate that if you don't have an exhaust manifold leak at the header then what you are experiencing is pre-ignition. In short I'll bet you are using regular 87 octane gas where as you should not be using anything lower then 89 octane gas (mid grade) in that engine. There are additives on the market that will boost octane and I've used then with my 1987 GL1000 but only when traveling and mid grade was not available. I had several little bottles pre-measured with the correct ratio of octane booster tucked inside the pocket of the fairing. It's a practice you should not make as routine as the mid grade is the best way to go without doing harm to the vales, pistons and head(s)

What is factory fork tube oil amounts?

For the 1982 GL1100 the front fork capacity is 9.8 oz. (290 cc) per tube. The recommended fork fluid is Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) or the equivalent 5 wt fork oil.
1980-1981 GL1100 7.0 oz. (220cc)
ALL GL1000 5.8-6.1 oz. (170-180 cc)

You guys told the guy with the goldwing clutch problem that the goldwing stator could be replace without pulling the engine. How?

Gl1500 and GL1800 have external alternators that can be easily changed. The GL1000, GL1100, and GL1200 you have to remove the motor completely or at least unbolt it and rotate it enough to get the rear cover off.

Best tires for 1982 GL1100?

Dunlop Elite II tire will give you the best mileage and handling If they are still available in your size. MY friends BMW K75rt and my GL1000 both got 40,000 miles before we needed replacement. Before that I got 50,000 out of a pair of Dunlop Tour Elites on a CX500 Honda. I sold that bike with the tires still on it and they looked OK.Unfortunately , I have no experience with the Dunlop Elite III, other than hearing many noise complaints.
