Slight tapping noise from engine when accelerating when engine is warm.Started about 3 days ago but hasnt got any worse.Doesnt do it when cold.

tap usually associated with lifters when vehicle warms up oil thins out and a bad or worn lifter will make a tapping noise --other oil level low --oil needs changing --low level will starve rockers/push rods/and lifters which will also cause tap ---damaged /dirty{sludge oil can cause same problems

How do I set tappets on Nissan 1400

With a special tool called a feeler gauge remove the valve covers and one by one bring the cylinders up to top dead center (both valves are fully closed at this point) adjust to factory spec. All adjustments are done cold. If engine is very high miles reduce the clearances in specs by slight amount (.002") to the tight side to account for wear in the valve train parts.

Your valves r tapping could be low on oil. I had a slight tap in one of my cars the engine is still going strong thousands of miles later

Send the valve settings for a toyota 3L engine

Valve setting? Most engine valves have an automatic adjuster to self adjust the setting. You didn't say you had it apart. So, I'm thinking you have a dirty condition that would make the adjuster or valve tap. If so good additives just for both those conditions can restore the adjusting by cleaning and freeing the ailing parts. Try the link below for more info and needed product. I have a 2001 harley heritage. Wondering how often I should have the valves adjusted. Thanks

Your engine is equipped with hydraulic tappets just like your car engine has. There is no way or need to adjust the valves. If you're hearing a slight tapping noise under the rocker box covers, this is normal. If you're hearing a loud tapping noise that comes and goes, it could be a roller on the end of a tappet going bad and you should have it looked into.

Good Luck

I have a slight tap in my engine what could it be. the engine has 122,000 miles on it.

probably just that the tappets need adjusting. could also be something more serious though like worn crankshaft bearings or something. to tell you the truth it could be alot of things but the thing that's most likely is just that the tappets need adjusting, especially if they havn't been done before/for a while.

Engine started tapping is it a valve gone

Hi, if the tapping is coming from the top half of the engine then the chances are it will be one of the hydraulic lifters that operates the valves the chances of a valve been gone is pretty slim if it was a valve your car would start to miss fire.

These lifters can be replaced and it is quite a big job to do. But getting it done sooner rather than later could save you alot of money just in case it does cause a valve to break this could cause you to have a seized engine and might need new engine.

The lifters themselves might be able to be adjusted but this would need to be done by trained mechanic as it takes exact measurements to find out the right lifter to adjust and thats if their is room inside the lifters to adjust them slightly. If not then you will need to have all the lifters replaced as to get the one out you need to be able to get to all of them. Its difficult to tell for sure witch one is playing up so this is why they replace them all.

On older cars you used to be able to adjust them with spanner and screwdriver but they stopped making them like that because they was un-reliable and was always noisy so instead of a spring type valve they use hydraulic ones now witch all cant be adjusted this would need to be checked.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Lifter is making loud tapping sound like rocker roller is hitting valve cover, and it squeals when I first start the car. This is a new reconditioned 455 pontiac trans am. 325 miles. is this serious or is...

here is the truth if the lifter is gone no adjustments can be done they will have to be changed it will not do serious harm it will just go tick tick louder and louder the lifter can do this beacuse of to things ,,,its worn out or the oil pump is not pumping the oil up right ,,,,,,
