Question about 1994 Suzuki VS 1400 Intruder

Replaced bars on my 1994 Intruder 1400....now it won't start?!?!?

I replaced the bars...reconnected all wiring inside the headlight.  All electrical appears to be working - turn signals, horn, headlight (hi/low), brake lights, Run/Kill switch, etc.  However, the bike won't start - it just turns over and over and over and then a lovely fuel odor is present.
I checked the fuses, all appear fine (I admit I forgot to disconnect the battery when I replaced the handlebar wiring).
I removed one of the spark plugs to check for spark when cranking the motor, and didn't see anything....could this be related to my bar replacement, or is it just evil coincidence?  I've quadruple checked the reconnections behind the headlight.
Any ideas?  And yes, the bike ran great prior to replacing the bars ;-).
Thanks.

Hi, Mo and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a "LOAD" test, your battery may show 12.5 volts but has little or zero amps and must be replaced.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
5. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
6. FOB battery low or dead.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Faulty starter button.
9. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.

Lights keep blowing the fuse

You can pull the light apart and check the amperage they require since they are not the factory headlights they most likely have a higher amp requirement and find out what that is and then install the proper required fuse for them. Also be sure to check and see if the wires are properly hooked up and wrapped properly and are not grounding out on any metal or other wires. This should solve your problems. Might also want to see if the headlight relay is also the proper one to cover the amps they require as well. Hope this works for u and good luck

1994 suzuki 1400 inturder fires on one side both coils are good could cdi be bad on one side also there is power on both sides.

The same problem with my intruder. Make sure the battery is good. I mean really good. Good amps and voltage. I replaced mine and haven't had a problem since. Also make sure that the plug gap is right on both plugs. Replace and gap the plugs if need be. Check to make sure that the plug wires at the plugs are inserted as they should be . A lot of times when you pull the plug wires from the plugs they come loose. They screw onto the insulator. One day I was riding and lost power to one cylinder and reached down and grabbed the plug wire and got a jolt. I screwed the plug insulator back on and off I went. Make sure that the plug wires arn't grounding out to the frame at any point. If so replace the plug wires. This was another problem I found. Good luck and Ride Safe. David.

Bought 1994 Suzuki Intruder 1400. Had sat for 2 years. Put new battery in and now it just tries to start, but won't. Removed plugs and they looked new, but bone dry. Shouldn't they have been wet from...

it sits for 2 years so you have to general check and clean everything, first replace the battery, spark plugs oil filter(if any) have your oil change, clean and balance your carburator and air cleaner, remove your gas tank empty it and clean use new gas, if you can spray an WD40 on all wiring socket then start the bike

Suzuki 1400 intruder wont start.. just clicking noise.

It's most likely the connection to the battery. The screws dont tighten in well and you get the famous clicking....I replaced the stock philips screws with a hex bolt and after two years of trying to solve the problen have been starting everytime for the past year no problems. Another gie away is the intermitant starting problem gets worse when wet.

You need to get a manual, a multimeter, and a few beers and start checking the wiring and switches, and relays.
