SOURCE: Front fork oil capacity

Hi Lukepentcof.

its 350cc or 11.8 ounces in the Clyma book, but that's for a 1986 onwards model. you can vary the amount you use to suit your style of riding anyways. I doubt it would be that far from the mark.

SOURCE: What is the oil capacity

To check your oil level , locate the large round clutch cover on the right side of the engine. With the motorcycle on the center stand unscrew the dipstick and wipe it off. Put the dipstick back in the fill hole till it stops but do not screw it in. Look at the level of the oil between the two marks. To change your oil you will need 4 quarts of oil, a filter, and a new aluminum drain plug washer. You can reuse the old one if it has not been squished out of shape. Your motorcycle comes from Honda usually with 10w-40 mineral base motorcycle oil. You can use any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Car oils use different additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not use any oil that says " Energy Conserving " on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you choose Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. Pour in three quarts of oil and add enough from the fourth quart to reach the high mark on the dip stick. You will probably need either 3.2 or 3.4 quarts to hit the high mark. Run the motor for a minute or two to fill the oil filter compartment with oil. Now recheck the oil level and top up as needed.

What is the firing order on a 1983 Honda Nighthawk 650?

Instructions
    • 1 Remove the front tire with the crescent wrench and set aside. Remove the nut and axle bolt from the tier and use the hammer to remove the axle bolt from the forks.
    • 2 Remove the securing bolt at the top of the fork on the handle bars. Slide the forks out of the fittings.
    • 3 Place the forks into the oil pan, bottom down, and remove the oil nut. Let the forks drain for ten minutes into the oil pan.
    • 4 Tighten the oil nuts and remove the seal from the fork fitting with a screwdriver. Slide the seal off the fork.
    • 5 Apply oil around the inside of the seal. Slide the seal onto the fork and press into the fitting tightly.
    • 6 Replace the oil in the fork following the manufacturer's recommendation.

yes, automatic transmission fluid is fine. it is the correct weight for standard suspension. The thicker the oil, the harder your front forks will be.
