The throw out bearing is in the clutch release mechanism in the right side cover of the transmission. It is a "radial bearing" that is about the size of a nickel and is held on by a
minuscule little snap ring. If the clutch cable is not adjusted
correctly and keeps the bearing constantly engaged (no free play in the lever) or the oil
slinger is left off the clutch release rod, the bearing will overheat and fail.
To change the bearing, drain the transmission and remove the right side end cover of the
transmission. The bearing should be right on the end of the rod that operates the clutch. It consists of two hardened washers, a flat radial bearing, and a small
circlip.
