Question about Honda XL 700 V Transalp Abs Motorcycles

3 Answers

Hi Mr Mixsfixes I come back to you because you gave me the solution to change this part: Hi Your Honda Transalp has a well known problem with speedometer drive gear failure. This is not a problem with the computer. You will have to contact Honda directly and have the part sent to you. The part no. is 44806-KF0-000 It looks like this You need to take the speedo drive off the wheel and then pull it off the drive cable. The problem is caused on this bike by the nylon gear teeth getting all chewed up and eventually the speedometer stops working. BUT IN THE 2009 TRANSALP THE SPEEDO IS DIGITAL NOT BY CABLE ?????? Pls expain

Hi

I have already responded to your question - perhaps you did not see my reply on another question that you had posted and would like to again advise you the following:

Previously you did not say your bike is a new model Transalp. The previous solution I gave is for the older model Transalp. That solution does not apply to your bike because your 2008/9 year bike uses a digital/electronic speedometer which is a totally different system. You should disregard the part number I gave previously you as it does not relate to your newer model Honda.

Presently I cannot give you a part no. because I don't know what part you need until you get your mechanic to check the circuit and identify exactly which part is actually at fault.

The parts involved that may be causing the problem on your year Transalp are

a) speed sensor b) instrument panel c) faulty wiring/loose connections

You must get your mechanic to check each of these before the problem part can be identified.

Previously you stated that you live in Bali and have problems getting parts for your motorcycle.

There is a Honda Motor Dealer in Jayakarta, Bali called Honda Jayakarta Motor.

The details for this dealership are at the following link - please click the link for their contact details;

http://bali.asiaxpat.com/directory/general-services/car-dealers/689/honda-jayakarta-motor/

I would advise that once your mechanic has identified the exact location of the fault in your electrical speedometer system - you should make direct contact with Honda Jayakarta Motor and get them to order the part you require. Their catalogue will have all the required part numbers and this seems the easiest solution for you at this time.

I hope you are now clear about the issue and what work needs to be done to identify the problem and also that you have been given a method of obtaining whatever part you may require through your local or nearest Honda dealer in Jayakarta.

I hope this helps and you get the problem solved very soon. Many Thanks.

    Hi

The speed sensor is on the back wheel on both the ABS and Non ABS models. Therefore wiring is from the back wheel for the speedometer.

On the picture below you will see the back wheel with the small rotor for sending signals to the speedometer.

Please see my other answer.
The Speed Sensor is damaged, unplugged - or the wiring is loose to it.
Its on the rear wheel rotor.
If you have the ABS version - it also is used by the ABS to sense a locking wheel, and speed differential to the front wheel.

Thanks.
Please accept this answer to remove it from the work queue.

The ABS version uses the info from the back AND front sensors.

The rear sensor is used in combination with the front to determine if one is moving faster than the other - is what I said initially.

Being a 2009, this is too new for tech sheets - your only recourse to find a part number or replacement part is through a dealership.

    Thanks

Hi, Gidi you are going to need a test light to track down wiring power /ground issues to those components and a wiring diagram in the back of your service manual also check all your fuses for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere zero $ you can download another one. I have a jammed Honda 600 Transalp centre stand. Can anyone help ?

I have just fitted a main stand to my Transalp 650 , if by jammed you mean rusted i think the only way would to remove it ! if thats the case you would have to remove the springs take out the split pin and tap the main bar out , grease well and fit back using two screewdrivers , use a larg phillips and a small flat screwdriver, lever the large spring down to the spring holder with the phillips and then then flip it onto the spring holder using the small flat screwdriver, then i used some strong cord to pull the small spring down onto the same spring hook ( holder)
