Question about 2007 Triumph Speed triple

96 Speed Triple Starting problem

Bike mint condition low miles. Starting it you hear a metalic rattling sound. If I keep giving it gas after a keeping the start button pushed and suffering through the metalic sound (not wanting to torture the bike) the bike starts. A preliminary diagnosis by a Manhattan shop assessed the problem as the starter clutch - which they want 15-20+ hours of labor plus parts to fix. I love the bike looking for a solution that is around a $1000.

Yep starter clutch!
just get a starter & do it yourself
invest in a workshop manual at the same time
& save big $$$
as the starter is a relatively easy job!
plus you may just enjoy your bike even more!

What kind of maintenance should i do to my 1989 cbr 600 f to keep it in tip top running condition

  • Change gearbox oil every 3000 miles. Change oil filter every 6000 miles. Use 10w40 motor oil. NEVER use synthetic lubricants as they can mess up the clutch.
  • Oil the chain every two weeks. Lube the control cables every oil filter change.
  • Keep the gas tank full in the cold months. This lessens internal tank rusting due to condensation in the tank. Drain the carbs when the bike will sit over the winter unless you plan on starting the bike every two weeks and letting it run for 15 minutes each time.
  • Be sure the gas valve is turned off when the bike is not in use.
  • Get a 2 amp trickle charger and charge the battery once a week for 4 hours in the winter. Be sure to keep enough water in the battery to cover the top of the plates in each cell. Know that batteries only last two years or so.
  • Check the chain tension once a month during the summer riding season.

Loud rattle coming from the bottom of engine. mostly heard after letting off the gas, starting and shutting off the vehicle.

Very hard to know without actually hearing the vehicle but,,,With what you describe, the cat/converter 'may' be making the sound. With the car off and engine cool, get under and give the cat/con a really give shove or hit.The insides of them do corrode and the internals make a very loud rattle. If this isn't the problem it will let you see if there is a loose exhaust mount that may also make a rattle.(The cat/con sound is like there is a very loose metal plate hitting something)Its actually the internals of the cat. that have broken loose and rattling inside it.Hope this helps

The truck runs fine at an idle but as soon as you start to give it gas to get up to speed it dies if you keep your foot on the throttle it will quit running but if you let right off on it, will keep...

Did you check that the exhaust is not choked sounds like the cat convertor is blocking the gas flow[Did you hear a rattle in your exhaust over the last few weeks???

Bike isnt starting and if it starts turns off soon after, also electric starter isnt turning the bike on (brand new bike)

Well sounds like you need to experiment with the idle screw, or maybe your forgetting that your not using a car give it a little gas while its not in gear. Every so often your throttle will need to be pumped to keep enough gas being injected into the bike so it will keep firing.

RATTERLY SOUND FROM POWER VALVES OR EXHAUST CONTROL VALVE.

Gooped up power valve should not produce noise. One would think it the valve was that loose, or the spring were gone it would develope a lower, strange curved, punchy power band, but not make noise. Still, it wouldn't hurt to see which spring (or lack thereof) is in the valve.

The run-on, rough high RPM and noise would tend to make me think of a lean condition. How's the plug looking?
