My family has an old row boat at our cabin in IL. It was our grandpa's and The title is lost/not avaiable. Looking to use the boat with a 25 HP outboard but can't use it with out registration. Help

there should be a manufacturers plate attached to the hull of the boat with a number of passengers it can carry and the max hp motor allowed to be fitted
talk with boat shops as they will know the approximate hp for each make of boat and length
while it may be attractive to fit big hp motors to small boats , it in fact makes the boat less sea worthy and makes capsizing easier so get the advice right from the boat shops

Motors of that era where very big and heavy. mY current 15 ft aluminum jon boat says 25 hp. It probably would hold a 2 cycle 25 but not a new 4 cycle (too heavy)

Most boat trailers use a sticker that falls off for the info you are looking for, try looking on the inside (between rails) of the trailer its sometimes there not on the outside. Many states DO NOT REQUIRE TRAILER TITLES. check with your deputy registrar or license bureau. if you have an old registration cert. you can try those numbers, or the original mso or paperwork if not titled. as NOT ALL STATES REQUIRE TITLES check with your local license people. as said before most states allow home made titles to be issued. since most boat trailers reach the dealer un-assembled that is why they use the sticker system, as the tounge or rails could be used on any one of the trailers the dealer orderd. If you sell the trailer I would definately go thru the paper work as a form of protection for yourself to prove legal ownership

It may be that the seller is referring to the Challenger 40 sailboat, which came with either a marconi or ketch sail rig. Compare the deck layout, photos at the bottom of page, and the specifications with the boat on:

...then it is the same or similar, this may be the boat referred to by the seller. There are also go-fast power boats with the name Challenger, but not something that a re-make would produce a nice cabin cruiser from.

Did you check spark right when it died on the lake ? If so you have a bad electronic module ,If you didnt when you get it started again do this,I have had one or two that had a problem with the on off switch ,but its rare.

Aluminum is very light, easy to pick up (with 2 - 3 people), low maintenance. You don't have to do anything to an aluminum boat, except spray it off with some fresh water, when you pull it out of the water. Wood, NO, heavy, lots of maintenance - paint, varnish, chance of leaks. Get the aluminum

I have been in the boating business for a long time and never heard of a manufacturer named Balt. To verify who built your boat, look for the Hull Identification Number. It is a 12 digit combination of letters and numbers located on the transom, or back of the boat. All boats built since 1973 are required to have this number. Once you have the HIN go to this link:

At this website you can enter the HIN and find the name and address of the manufacturer.
