Question about 2003 BMW R 1200 CL

Press starter button then a crackling, clicking sound in Relays

The bike has a healthy, fully charged battery. When trying to start the displal comes on as normal. I Press the starter button and a crackling, clicking sound , under the seat in the Relays is heard. If I remove the "Motronic Relay" the sound stops. I have checked the Relays of the Fuel Pump, Horn and Relief as they are common to the Motronic and they all do the same thing!
If I try the horn it cause the same noise as when trying to start so I guess this is not a "Starter" problem. Anyone got a remedy?

You might first try and (jump) the starter at the starters bendex. To do this you could use a jumper wire or a screwdriver if you know what you are doing... (jump or connect together) the one (thin) red wire leading to the back of the starters bendex and the one (thick) cable also leading to the back of the starters bendex...being careful not to "ground" your jump wire or screwdriver to the bikes frame!!!... "Make sure you are in neutral"!!! ...Turn the ignition to the on position. You may have to engauge the start button at the same time you jump these leads. If your bike still clicks instead of turns over/starts.. Either the battery is not up to snuff...try boost starting from off you car or truck to determine this if you do not have the proper battery test equipment: (or) there is a loose or corroded connection. It is possible the connection at the starter button also is crusty. To clean your connections well, "You must first disconnect the negative terminal at the battery"!!!... Clean all the contacts/connections the same way using an electric contact cleaning spray (that evaporates) and a med-soft bristle brass wire brush. You really should start from the battery to the starter and also the starter button if accessible. A light wipe over from a clean cloth sprayed sparingly w/a light oil or silicon afterwards on all cleaned areas should keep them being that way again till next year if your bike is ridden in fowl weather often and/or left out in the elements. I find it hard to believe that all the relays went out simultaniously!!!...It is almost impossible. Guzzi-Guy

Wont start


Check ground wire that usually connects from battery to Starter bolt.
Or at least clean connections at battery terminals

Starters take a lot of Current to turn, bad connections at battery will allow many functions to appear fine but No Crank at teh Starter

2007 kawasaki ninja 650r. when I goto start the bike it makes a clicking sound but wont start. the clicking isnt from the starter it comes from an area by the battery.


Sounds like your hearimg the solinoid clicking, basically it makes the connection from the start button to the starter. It's often mounted right next to the battery as well. Now if your sure the battery is good and fully charged fallow the positive cable from the battery to solinoid, from solinoid to starter motor, and check each connection is tight and clean from corrosion. Also fallow the ground from the battery to the frame check for the same. If all look up to par, jump start the bike from a battery charger or vehicle with cables. If it starts, recheck the battery voltage.

Hyosung GV 650 wont start. Battery is fully charged and starter don't even click when trying to start?

This will be either the starter solenoid is faulty or the starter motor needs replacing.Have the solenoid checked before removing the starter motor.

Bike would only click when I tried to start. I installed a new fully charged battery and still get the same result. A clicking sound from behind the seat.


Since you have installed a new battery then try the simple things first...check your ground and other wires for a good clean connection. If this fails then you have to check the starter....remove it and see if it works by trying it with jumper cables, if it activates then you know it is working and you will have to check your relays

Don't know where or what the starter motor looks like, does anyone know how to change the starter on a gilera 180 dna/ the thing wont start but i hear a faint clicking when i try to start to turn it over....


The clicking you can hear is the relay actuating when you press the starter button, your problem is more than likely to be the battery being low on charge and not having enough power to turn the starter motor. Fully charge the battery and it should fire up fine. If it dont get a new battery.

My 636 wont start on the button, it was as if my battery was dead but i took the battery off put it on the charger and it was fully charged, what is wrong with my bike


Sounds like you might have a faulty starter solenoid.trace the positive battery cable till you find it connected to a small canister.When you press your starter this should click.To confirm this take a meter that reads volts DC and have someone press the starter,you should have at least 12 volts going into the solenoid and 12 volts coming out.It will be the larger cable. Also check the two smaller wires for power,these are the ones that send the power from the button that activate the solenoid,closing the circuit ,sending power to the starter.Hope this helps good luck

The oil light is on because the engine isn't running to build any oil pressure. Sounds like the new battery may need to be charged fully. After the battery is fully charged, and the 'clicking' noise is back (or not) check the battery connections for corrosion--especially at the positive terminal. If ok, you should get one solid click when trying to start. If ok, but still not starting, jump the two heavy terminals of the solenoid (click source) with a heavy wire which should bump the starter motor. If nothing, then the starter motor needs service--usually the brushes inside fail to make contact with the armature due to brush wear, or weak springs. Most dealers will likely only sell you a new starter--no internal parts. Hope this helps!

chec fuses-bad ones can appear normal-inspec if connecs r tite at starter n solenoid area-n also relays--starter may be bad ur bike is 10yrs-test it--that electric clutch may be malfunctionin too

Wont Start it dont act like it is getting power to starter and starter button


If the starter button does not result in the starter motor turning, you need to get the wiring diagram for your specific bike (maybe in the owner's manual?) and do some checking. Check out the starter circuit (wiring, connectors, safety switches/relays, etc.) to get familiar with where everything is located on the bike. Check that the battery is fully charged. Hook up a voltmeter to the negative post on the battery and the the positive probe to the starter motor terminal. Turn on the ignition and press the starter button. If the voltmeter indicates around 12-13 volts when the starter button is pressed, then the starter is in need of repair/replacement. If no voltage is indicated, you need to trace back through the circuits (starter solenoid, safety switches/relays, connections) until you do get 12-13 volts. The place where it stops is the trouble area.
