If it only happens in second gear it's the transmission. If it happens in every gear it's the clutch.

125cc Kawasaki dirt bike, cranks on first kick, idles but won't run in any gear, doesn't die out but doesn't seem to engage gear, possible problems?

Does it jerk forward when you put it into gear and die? Or you put it into gear and the bike doesn't move when you let the clutch out? Badly adjusted clutch in both cases. Worst case, you need new clutch plates and springs.

Kx 125 cuts off when put in gear

Are you sure the clutch is engaged... does it just stop or the bike jerks forward when you put it in gear. Might just need to adjust the clutch.

Yamaha Pw80 clutch

The PW80 does not have a manual hand lever clutch, its a 3 speed semi auto. The bike will jerk and shut off when put in gear. If I put it in gear while rolling then it will work. Any ideas?

Have to hold clutch to keep bike from dieing

clutch plate adjusment or cable adjustment, it sounds like the clutch is staying engaged, try loosening the cable on the clutch until there is lots of slack init and try to start the bike, if it jerks forward then you are going to have to adjust/replace the internal clutch plates hope this helps

My rm 80 1stand 2nd gear locks wheels

If your rear wheel is locked up in first and second gear with the engine running, this is not a good sign. Have you ever ran the bike without oil in the transmission? Every time I've seen this, the chain was thrown off the bike and it busted the cases. The oil leaked out of the cases and the transmission locks up. Generally, it locks in fifth gear but it could lock up in any or no gear.

Your problem sounds like something is wrong with the low gear-second gear "clutch gear". The clutch gear is gear that slides sideways on one of the transmission shafts to engage the proper gears. If the bike will roll when in neutral, these may be the only gears affected. If the bike will not roll when in neutral, your problem may be in countershaft. Either way, the transmission could be damaged.

Now, if you're talking about the rear wheel locking up if you try to push start the bike, this is because in low and second gear, there isn't enough mechanical advantage in the transmission to overcome the engine compression. Remember, you transferring torque through the transmission backwards when you try to push start the bike. Try starting the bike using third or fourth gear instead. Standing on the pegs and dropping onto the seat when you release the clutch helps.

Starting problem

That's normal and nothing to worry about. The clutch is a wet multiplate design (it runs in the engine oil) and has a little drag to it when the oil cold.

in neutral push the clutch in and shift into first or second with out letting go of the clutch the bike jerks forward. It's like the gears punch in. The engine doesn't stall the RPMs don't even drop. The jerk isn't very big it's just that it worries me. What's going on?That's normal and nothing to worry about.
