Is the security light lit ? anti - theft system ! Try spraying carburetor cleaner into the engine through the throttle plate ,if it starts you have a fuel delivery problem . The fuel pump or the injectors are not be turned on . You should check to see if there is spark also ,pull a plug wire an hold it near metal on the engine somewhere an have a helper try an start the vehicle . No spark , you have a ignition problem . You could have a no spark problem an it would act the same as a not getting fuel problem .

I am not a mechanic and have had no problems with my 2005 Ion-2 but at msn/autos I see that these can exhibit a starting problem because of the ignition switch which they recommend replacing. The part is around $40 & the labor is 1 hr.

All a good start. You must consider timing. If the timing is off it will not fire correctly. There are cam and crank sensors that do the job, they must be checked.
SOURCE: 2005 Audi A4 1.8 Fuel Pump problem?
I had an Audi A4, 10 years older than yours mind you, but it would start then stop, sometimes 10 times but would eventually go. I ran a little WD40 in the key barrel and put the key in and out a couple of dozen times. Wiping it with a cloth each time, lots of dirt came off. My theory and it's only mine, is that the wear on the key left dirty metal deposits inside which stopped the chip in the key being recognised. I believe they had a security chip inside the key.
Anyway after 6 months of this nuisance it never happened again after that. Fixed my problem and a lot of frustration. Maybe help you too.
