You have two choices, you can purchase a new ignition lock cylinder (costs between 150-200 at most any part store) and take it to a lock smith with your original key to have the pins changed to where your key operates the new lock cylinder. And then have it changed out. Or you can take your car to a mobile audio store that installs aftermarket remote start systems and have them bypass the PassLock anti theft system. Cost should be about the same either way, may be just a but cheaper for the bypass, but then your car will be more vulnerable. If the PassLock had been bypassed when they attempted to steal it, it might be gone right now.

sounds like your passlock sensor on the ignition barrel is faulty. you will have to go to the dealer to have it replaced because of the programming after replacement.

The Starter silenoid is probably what the problem is. And the knocking could that be a loose starter? The two problems doesn't seem connected.

SOURCE: my security light comes on and i can't start my car

your car security system can not be disable but it can be bypass

but firts on these models it is the pass key the problem

on your key to strt the car you have a little round black thing with a little metal contact this is a resistance that is in your key when you put it in the hole to start your car it mesure the ressistance
and the you can start your car

the usual problem with this system is that in the ignition key lock cylinder there are two wire
and usualy one of the two wire just cut so i would remouve the stearing wheel and get that wire fix

hope that will help you !!!

the way to bypass the system is easy but you need to realy know what you will be doing

first you mesure the ressistance in the key in (ohm) and second get a ressistance the same value from any places that sells electronics

after you will find in your car the passkey decoder module (behind right side of i/p)
the two wires that come out of the box (B7 ppl/wht and B8 wht/blk)
cut these two wires and weld the ressistance in bettwen
this way you won t have to take your stearing appart
and your system will be bypass for ever

great day to you

SOURCE: 2002 Monte Carlo Security system

the process takes about thirty minutes. in three ten minute key cycles. here is how you do it . make sure that the battery is fully charged. step on parking brake pedal and leave it down this will keep the head lights off. turn the key and try to start it then leave it in the on position. you have to leave the key in the on position for ten minutes. you will see the security light on. after the ten minutes the light will go off then turn the key to the start position. turn the key all the way back to the off position and count to three. then try to start it and leave the key in the on position for another ten minutes till the security light goes out. you have to do this same process three times to reset the security system. sometimes you get lucky and it will start after the first ten minute cycle.

2002 impala, no crank

what makes you think someone tried to steal it? the security light issue is a very common problem with GM cars equipped with the Passlock II anti-theft system. just a few days ago my 2003 impala did the same thing in front of a 7-11. took me about 10-15 minuts to get it started. i just kept turning the key on, tried to crank it, and turned the key off numerous times. i had a 1999 malibu that did the same thing and i replaced the ignition cylinder and keys. that cost me about $160 but it solved the problem. changing it out is fairly simple. if thats the route you have to/ need to go i can walk you through it. unfortunately however, GM, although this is a very common occurance, will not issue a recall to fix the problem.

The security was turned on when i used valet parking. now i have to do a ritual to get it to start. Lock, left signal, break then start. How do I turn this security system off ?

The security system is tied directly into key, ignition, and the theft deterrent module in your car. If the security light is on, this means that one of these parts is failing and will need to be replaced. There is no "turn off" switch or any process to turn it off. If there were, any criminal could do that to disable the antitheft and steal your car. This problem is very common on GM vehicles. Its probably the most common reported problem GM has ever had, going all the way back to the early 80's. Go to this link, it explains how the system works and offers ways to bypass this system yourself. Ive done both of the different bypasses on this site dozens of times and they both work well depending on your type of system. For your year and model you will need to read about the one that says PERMANENT FIX. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

2001 Monte Carlo Turn key on won't turn over, evertything else wo

Is there a security light on, if it is then you have the anti theft working thinking someone is trying to steal the car. If you have the second ignition key's with you try it.  If not try this, it takes about 30 min to do. 30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important: Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted, be glad to help

2003 pontiac grand am 2.4 car won't start changed fuel pump and fuel filter, will not start car stopped running while driving security light come on

Your problem is in the security system. That will disable the fuel system, so a theif cant steal your car. I'd bet you will need to change the key and sensor for the key, it's part of the ignition switch.

Car wont start. security light on.

I had this same problem with my 2002 Monte. It is a very cheap fix about $100(If you do not got to the dealer $800) The car thinks that you are trying to steal it so you have to turn the key in the on position until the security light goes off and when the light goes off dont try to start it. Turn the key to the off position and then try to start it. It should take about ten minutes. I know its frustrating cuz I've been there.
