First check fuses!
getting no power to fuse box on tail lights & head lights fuses had fuse box apart all fine new regulator/rectifier & relay box fitted no change, any ideas
Check wires from battery to fuse box!
Done that, all other wires except the brown one are getting power.
power coming out of ignition switch from the brown wire into loom.
I hot wired a live to the brown wire fuse box every thing worked but wire got hot, don't think it was going through regulator so took it of quick, continuity checked fuses, regulator, all good.
Ok, you have trouble shooted all the options.....the issue is there is no power to the brown wire right? Trace the power wire from the battery to the fuse box and replace with the correct gauge wire! The wire getting hot is probably because the gauge is too low.
Hot wire it direct from + battery to offending fuse that's why it got hot. the problem is no power getting to the light fuses, brown wire come out of ignition switch, "which is live" into loom somewhere in between there & the fuse box is the problem?
You have to either trace the brown wire from the battery to the fuse box either physically or using a wiring diagram and check the connections or replace the wire, if as you said there is a live feed going into the brown wire but it is not getting to the fuse box! Then there is a break or disconnection in between this connection.
The lighting does not run from a direct battery live feed and is usually broken with a relay and fuse, so you need to find the routing of the brown cable and replace it.....this is going to involve opening up the wiring loom to trace the brown wire.....you will then be able to check the continuity of the wire to see if there is a break before the relay/fuse or after!

When I hot wired the system I used the same gauge wire direct from battery, live to the offending fuse terminal all worked but wire got hot.I believe the wire that's causing the problem comes out of ignition switch "which is live" into loom to regulator/rectifier then fuse box have replaced & check all relays etc could it be a break in the loom somewhere.
Definitely a problem with the wire from the battery to the fuse box! Trace the wire either physically or with a wiring diagram and replace the wire, it is either the wire that has a break or is not attached properly! Either way just replace with a new wire......but follow the same route as the original to be safe. Also you probably bypassed the relays when you hot wired it before that could have been the reason for the wire getting hot!
