I couldn't find one either. same problems as you had with dodgy links etc. Contact your local Suzuki Service Agent, they may have an old service manual you can "borrow" for 10 mins to copy what you need. .

Most of the time it is the timing the exhaust valve is opening when the motor is ready to fire or problem 2 could be valves not seating properly

you should find a suzuki dealer and get an oem service manuel..

it would be better off to buy a haynes or clymer manual-explaining it in detail is involved-they show step by step-also library under sec 629 can show you similar bikes-there ***! make sure wen u bolt the top sproket itz torqued rite or it can spin off givin u a valve job

Unless the box is toast... but you would hear it... it isn't exactly a new model - who knows how hard a life it has had...

If your Savage is the same as my old 1988 Savage, you probably checked the oil level in the sight glass on the side of the engine case. Make sure the bike is standing straight up when you check it. It is easiest to have someone else hold the bike while you bend over to check the level. If I remember correctly, the fill port should be on the upper side of the crankcase about 8 inches away. If it is not there, check the opposite side of the engine. I really miss my Savage, but after 13 years riding without having an accident, I figured I was living on borrowed time considering how blind the drivers around here are.
